I haven't been able to resolve my problems with Adobe Digital Editions despite spending many hrs with the IT librarian, B+N and the Genius Bar at Apple. I tried getting library books using a Windows computer and that worked fine. Before I buy them for the kids, I'm curious if other Mac users have had troube getting library books. I'd hate to have to keep using Windows since we're almost a completely Mac family. I was thinking maybe Adobe DE is buggy for Macs.

Hi,

I have a nook and a Mac (a MacBook and a iMac). I haven't had any big issues. I borrow ebooks from my library-- they use Adobe epub. Somtimes I get a message saying that I'm not an authorized borrower when I try to open the book through epub. However, I don't have an issue on the nook. When the ebook loan expires it no longer opens and I just hook it up to my mac to delete it. I've used it on both my laptop and desktop. The nook just shows up as a drive in epub and I drag and drop the books to the nook.

Being able to get library books on my nook was what tipped the scales over the kindle.

Maybe you can delete the copy of the Adobe software and then reinstall it.

I love it!

we tried that

I'm thinking of trying it on my son's mac

glad to hear you've had no issues

I "rented" my first ebook from my library yesterday. I have a MacBook and had no problem using Adobe Digital Editions for the Mac. I do not have a Nook, yet--I an seeing how the ebooks are to read. My question for you is:
Can you upload the ebook from Adobe Digital Editions (on a Mac) to a Nook or Kindle??

You can download an epub book to a nook, but not to a kindle. My library site lists the following supported devices: nook, sony reader, and kobo reader.

I, too, had done trial library rentals and downloads on my mac before I purchased my nook. The Adobe digital editions does work ok-- I've never tried it on a PC.

Once you download your epub books, you open Adobe digital editions. If you connect your nook to your computer, it shows up in Adobe DE on the left panel. I then drag the books to the nook icon.

I've been regularly adding and deleting books on my nook since the books expire after 10 days.

I think my issues are rare, I'm glad to hear others are using adobe on their macs with no issues. I'm going to try installing ADE on my son's Mac and see if it works on his. I was hesitant to try thinking maybe ADE doesn't play well with Mac but it sounds like it does.
