I have one with American fidelity. I submitted a claim and was denied a couple of dollars.
Took me a bit to figure out but realized it was airborne and sales taxes on my items. In the past i was reinbursed for the sales tax. Did they change? Can we claim sales tax? I called yesterday but they couldnt help me because the imaging of the recipets werent on file but i figured out it was airborne and taxes. If anyone has the answer let me know. If they do reinburse then I'll give them another call

Yes, it looks like you should be reimbursed for the sales tax. But, if there were other non-FSA items on the receipt, you would have to calculate the amount of the tax and list it.

This link is to a pretty encompassing list of what is and is not allowed. It might vary by plan but this should be a good starting point.
https://www.conexis.org/solutions/expenses_EE.asp

This list says:
"Sales tax on qualified medical expenses (e.g. OTC medications) Yes Standard Sales tax will automatically be reimbursed if receipt contains only FSA-eligible expenses. If not, the participant is responsible for calculating the sales tax in order for it to be reimbursed."

Don't forget you can claim mileage and parking for doctors visits. Plus you can claim mileage for trips to the pharmacy to pick up prescriptions. For 2009 the rate is 24 cents per mile. It has been reduced to 16.5 cents per mile for 2010.

I do not believe that sales tax is reimburseable.

A woman I work with has her CEBS and has been a benefit law specialist for over 20 years I will double check with her tomorrow.

Found the American Fidelity website listing eligible expenses. They say tax is covered. But as I said above, you may have to calculate it out and specifically ask for it.

"Taxes on medical services and products Yes, to the extent imposed on reimbursable medical care or products."

found the miliage form. For those that turn it in- do you mail it with every claim or just do it at the end of the year
All the sales taxes on all my medical items werent credited. I did the form the same as I have done so I htought maybe they changed it.I calculate only the taxes for the medical stuff and then put one total price . Now I'm thinking maybe the person who did my claim is new or they forgot to include my taxes.
I'll call them and get it correct. I just wanted to be sure. I never add mileage but now that i know how much it is i might as well. Thanbk you so much for the info.
I'll have to see if theres an extra form for the gas

called and talk to a rep. The person who did my claim wasnt around. The rep had a hardtime figuring it out. I told her its the airborne and the taxes from the other medical stuff i bought. The taxes came out to 2.99 but i have to submit that on my next claim because its under 5.00 . So now to make it easier i will circle each item and write down the tax on each reciept. I think the person who did my claim must be new to leave out the taxes on each item. I told the rep I've done the claim exactly the same for the last two years and never had a problem but i will do whatever to make it easier for the adjuster. I'm also going to add mileage for Dr. visits. Dentist would count too right?

the mileage is 16.5 cents for 2010

Dental and vision care mileage would both be covered (unless the sole purpose of the visit to the dentist is teeth whitening or something cosmetic that isn't covered).

I had no idea mileage was deductable! If I have money left at the end of the year in my flex spend, I'll have to see if I can do that. My pharmacy and my doc is really close, but my dentist is over 30 minutes away, so for dental visits it would be worth the paperwork.

Thank you. This will really help out.I added $400 ($1000)to my plan for this year and i'm sure I will use it-I hope-lol!. In the past I'd use it all up by Feb or March because I had so much dental. Now It will be just for Dr. visits, over the counter meds, RX and dd's glasses. The Gas will help out. I just want to make sure I use it and not lose $$$

Do you have American fidelity, if so i can post the gas mileage form. Just start keeping track of your mileage so it doesnt get confusing if you wait til the end of the year. I never realized how much i spent in medical until my flex account.
