Looking to travel to a beach somewhere late May. It will likely be just myself and my two 16 yr daughters.

  • It doesn't have to be super touristy, just have some restaurants and some things to do close by
  • Reasonable priced lodging is a bonus
  • It does not have to be in Florida
  • Must be close to an airport

We go to Pawleys island every summer. It’s south of Myrtle beach. Far enough away that it’s nice and quiet but close enough to the fun things to do at MB. It’s got the ocean on one side and the inlet on the other, so beautiful views from every angle and awesome tide pools due to the inlet. We also really like the Cherry Grove Inlet point area, the very northernmost part of MB. It’s quiet and again you have the inlet and ocean, which makes for really cool tide pools to find various cool sea life in.

You’re also not very far from Charleston which is a beautiful city to day trip to.

Amtrak has a bus to seaside Oregon...PDX has a railway that will take you directly to the train station... beach bus use to leave at 6 West and leaves East before noon

I'm a big fan of Indialantic just east of MLB airport. I'm in Melbourne at least twice a year for business and try to see a sunrise at Indialantic at least once each trip. It's about 20 miles south of Canaveral so plenty to do up there but I've never seen Indialantic anywhere near as busy.

DH and I live in east St. Cloud, and love going to Melbourne. Great restaurants and close to Cocoa Beach, which has a touristy kitschy shopping area.

I love Myrtle Beach. Oldest DS and family rent a house in a private neighborhood, and they have their own beach. I joined them last year. But honestly, I’ve stayed at hotels on the Grand Strand and have had a great time! So much to do!

I’ve been to quite a few beaches and have liked them all for different reasons. I’m following along on this thread to get some good ideas :)

Wanted to add the I tried Carolina Beach on a whim. It’s close to a small regional airport (Wilmington NC). It was super cute and tiny but had a little bit of everything. We stayed in a really affordable Courtyard that was right on the beach and all rooms were oceanfront with a balcony.

Hilton Head Island! Definitely a favorite of ours. The beaches stretch for miles. We also LOVE the miles and miles of bike paths along with the great restaurants and lots of shopping. I don’t golf, but if you do, there are so many golf courses as well. Can fly right there or to Savannah which is under an hour away.

Good memories made on the CT side of Long Island Sound. Many other east coast beaches further south and north I’ve spent time at but Rocky Pt, Thimble Islands and Hammonnassett still make me smile.

For the last few years my friends and I have been taking a girls trip to Treasure Island, FL. We stay at a hotel on Gulf Blvd, near the public beach parking lot. We take an Uber from the airport, we don't rent a car, there's a trolley that goes back and forth (we've never used it), great little restaurants across the street and a Publix in easy walking distance (just don't buy too much on one trip like we did). It's really nice and I was used to Siesta Key area. One of the hotels, I believe it's the Thunderbird, has music at night so we walk down and listen to the music.
Wanted to add that the airport is very small, we fly in/out on Allegient.

I’m from south Orange County. Newport Beach & Laguna Beach will always hold a special place in my heart. Lots of fun summer memories.

Ft Pickens or Navarre Beach in Pensacola. They have some of the whitest sand you'll find. I actually got sunburn on the bottoms of my feet, from the sun's rays bouncing off of the sand. Oh, and you might see dolphins!

Ditto on Gulf Shores, Al. We stay just down the beach at Orange Beach, Al. Beautiful sand!

I have never been to Gulf Shores, but I have heard really good things about it!

(Hasn't been mentioned yet) Being a Negative Nancy here, but I will say that I was *NOT* impressed by Hilton Head, SC. I know it's really popular and people love it, but it was not my thing. Maybe the time we went was not the norm, but the beach there was just not my thing. The beach just looked dirty (not litter, just the aesthetic). There were these dead creepy looking things laying around everywhere (I googled them, called horseshoe crabs). Also had jellyfish everywhere.
