I was soooooooo excited about our trip, now I am freaking out with all the storms and thinking about changing our dates!!! Anyone else worried about it?

My first trip to WDW was in 1999. While we were there a hurricane hit. I was told it was the first time that WDW was closed because of a hurricane. Disney did an excellent job of getting everyone back to the resorts in a very short time. We had no idea how bad the hurricane was and didn't rush to call my parents or my aunt and uncle. They were so worried and we had no idea that they even knew about it.

It hasn't changed my time to go to WDW.

I don't know that I'm so worried about a hurricane hitting Orlando while we are there, we live in Louisiana and have been hit with numerous hurricanes. What I'm worried about is one hitting here in Louisiana while I am vacationing, worried about my family and my house and possibly not being able to get back to my family!! I'm so confused!!!

We are going from the 3rd to the 11th.

I am not worried at all. Last time we were there for Hur. Rita and even though the news announced Disney was closed all day, they actually opened at noon and noone was there! It was the best day we have ever had at Magic Kingdom!

We will take our rain ponchos and plan for rain.

Dawn

My SisIL was there during that "Magic Kingdom Closed Hurricane" :scared1: with some of her band students. She was worried and so were we (and a lot of band parents:guilty:), but Kath said that Disney did a great job getting the guests to their resorts and had a lot going on inside the resorts to entertain frightened or bored adult and kiddo guests:genie:.
SO, we will be there over Labor Day Week (4th though the 11th at All Star Music Family Suites:cool1::cool1:). We are NOT changing our dates:cloud9:. And we plan to buy the stupidly overpriced Disney Ponchos:rolleyes1. I don't wear them anywhere else anyway! If it rains HARD(not hurricanes) we will be found at Disney Quest:rainbow:. If it rains and we are already in the park(s), we will take our time leaving because some of the best times we have ever had on Disneyland/Disneyworld property were during/just after rainstorms:tigger:.
I've huddled under the canopy at the Tea Cups with a Cast Member, ridden the Small World Castle repeatedly, ridden Space Mountain repeatedly, and had my kiddos have a "practically private party" with the princesses at the judges tent - ALL DURING RAINSTORMS!

I love rain at Disney!:tink:

we are arriving at WDW on the 11th (Fri after Labor Day) and to be honest I haven't thought at all about Hurricanes. We have been when it rains tho and yes I was one of several who have bought the WDW ponchos and I love them.

We are going that week too - this will be the 3rd year in a row we go that week. Past 2 years have been fine, a few showers but nothing that stopped us from doing anything. I'm not worried - I can't change it, it is what it is.

Last year there was one day when we were at the MK where it started POURING after dinner. We were soaked, and we had ponchos on. I wore my Nikes there that day and my shoes were soaked the rest of the trip. From now on I will bring a change of shoes just in case!

Yep, we will be there... (ticker below)

Wet sneakers... Buy a newspaper. Roll into balls. Place tightly into sneakers. Change every few hours. Sneakers will be dry the next day!

We will be going Sept. 5-12 and we are not worried at all and we are not planning on changing our dates. I also LOVE Disney in the rain and we always buy the overpriced Disney ponchos.:rotfl:

I don't know why, but it is just so much fun walking around Disney in the rain. We'll keep our eyes on the weather and hope for the best, but as long as we can fly into MCO, we'll be there.:goodvibes

We are going sept 6-13 and staying in the family suites. The only thing I am worried about is if the weather is bad the day we go and the airport is closed.

Where do you buy the ponchos at Disney?

Anywhere- they will set them out at all the gift shops when it starts raining. They are like $7 or so, but they are a lot more durable than the dollar store ones. We bought them a few years ago and now we take them back each year, they have been that durable!

We too will be there September 5th to the 12th and live way north so never have to worry about hurricanes. I was concerned after hearing of the recent storms nearing, but as others have said, we will be there as long as we can fly into MCO!!!! Might as well go with the flow, they have a well thought out plan!!!

We are arriving on the 8th and staying thru the 15th. I, too, am a bit concerned about storms/heavy rain, but it is a known risk going during Hurricane Season. I am sure we will all have a magical time, regardless! :goodvibes

We are going from the 8th to the 15th. We went last year during labor day and only had 1 bad day with rain the rest was sunny. Just keep an eye on the weather but disney is prepared if a hurricane hits. Dont worry about it just have fun.

We're going over Labor Day and I'm hoping for a fair bit of rain (no hurricane, of course). It scares the less hardy out of the parks and makes the lines much shorter :thumbsup2

Cheers.

We will be there as well from Sept 5th - 12th (arriving on my sons 8th b-day). Last year the pending hurricanes actually kept it somewhat cooler a lot of cloud cover anyway, and a good breeze most days. We did have a heavy rain one afternoon but ate lunch and then went on with our day.

We are also going from the 8th to the 15th. I was really worried last year but we have been going the week after labor day since 2007 and haven't had bad weather. Disney knows what they are doing i wouldn't worry about it to much.
