Hi:

My family members had paid for a flight for a week to disneyworld in April during the pandemic lock down. They have offered a trip another time but no mention of a refund option. I thought I had heard the American Transportation was urging airlines to give a refund for cancelled airline trips. Anyone offered a refund from Southwest airlines?

Nope.
But they have an update on Extended use for all travel funds. See their site.
There is Always an Option to purchase refundable flights on SW, but most don’t buy. Those are the only ones that guarantee refunds
Re-book and safe traveling.

Was the flight cancelled by Southwest? Or has your family chosen not to go?

If the former, they are entitled to a refund per the US Department of Transportation.
If the latter, then they can only get a voucher/airline credit to use for a future trip.

I think my family let them know that they could not travel to the U. S. because of the ban, plus everything has been closed because of the pandemic. So i guess they changed the flight for a year from now. They were supposed to be in wdw now.

Southwest has just updated their policy and I feel they are being extremely fair.

Travel Funds:
Previously, Customers' travel funds that have expired or would have expired between March 1 - June 30, 2020, or travel funds that were created because of a cancellation between March 1 - June 30, 2020, had an expiration date of June 30, 2021. We are now expanding the window of funds eligible for extended expiration dates and extending the expiration date of these funds. Funds that are set to expire or funds that are created between March 1, 2020 and September 7, 2020, will have an expiration date of September 7, 2022. This gives Customers who had travel funds created in connection with this pandemic–or who won't be comfortable traveling this summer–additional time to retake that same trip or explore a different destination. It will take our Technology Team a few days to make these changes and more details on this extension can be found at Southwest.com/RRcoronavirusupdates.

Hello:

Without being too intrusive are you from Canada, or United States? I am still feelling my family members should ask for a refund, as they may not be able to travel to wdw until a vaccine is found, as one of them is immune suppressed.

I'm from the US. Honestly, I didn't even ask for a refund. I just contacted them to clarify the travel funds extension and verify we were eligible and was offered a refund so I took it.

southwest is offering a travel credit good for more than the next 2 years. I don’t believe refunds will be issued unless your family purchased the more expensive flight options.

And I believe they are also offering to convert your travel funds to points which never expire. Which I might do. Oh how I wish we could get a Southwest credit card here in Canada! Love Southwest.
