I bought our flights today from NY to orlando. We were offered travel insurance and I purchased it . (it was $97 for the 5 of us). The company is Allanz. Has anyone used this travel insurance? Just wondering if it was worth it. Just thought it would be a good idea to get. Any opinions?

I purchased the insurance from Jet Blue, also. Seems a bit higher compared to other airlines (think I paid $66 last year). I booked Jet Blue yesterday for a trip in October. One year my boss cancelled my vacation with 4 days notice (two of the six partners were in the hospital and to be out a 3rd would be devastating!) Airline tickets are $900+ dollars for 4 tickets and anything can happen (illness, weather, etc). Guess better to have it and not need it. I figure if you buy the insurance it can only help the Karma. :worship:

On the other hand, I am a physician and have had to recommend many times that people cancel their vacations due to medical conditions and needed surgery. I have filled out these forms many times. I had one patient I had to file a third appeal, but she did finally get her money back. The insurance also helps cover some emergency medical expenses if you get ill on vacation. Some medical coverages are regional coverages, so if you need care out of the area, at least it might help defray the cost. Lots of exclusions, though.

Just my 2 cents. Hope it helps. Others have recommended buying insurance on your own. I recall a few years ago if you book package thru Disney and pay for their trip insurance it covers your flight even if you booked on your own. You have 10 days to cancel the Jet Blue insurance.

Have a GREAT trip!

I know this is an old thread - bumping it up.

I recently purchased the insurance for our r/t to Orlando in July. Three of us. My dd was supposed to return home in May - currently in the CP in Disney. She has decided to extend her stay. We are all cruising.

So we will now have to drive down, pick her up to cruise and stay an addtional week since she will be checking out.

Before I call Jetblue and cancel - not sure what all the covered reasons are. Can I use the credit and book my son and future daughter-in-law with the credit or do I need a medical reason to cancel?

Has anyone cancelled other than medical, loss of job, etc.?
TIA

With JB, they will charge you a 'change fee' that depends on what the original fare was. It isn't more than $100 though. Anything over that goes into a JB credit that you can use later. For instance, if your fare was $175, they will keep $100 of it and put $75 into a credit for you to use later.

I never buy travel insurance. It is very restrictive. Just too many ways for the company to not pay you.

Thank you. I usually buy insurance for cruises and out of the country trips. I don't usually buy for air - but was worried more about medical reasons (family). Did not think my daughter would decide to extend her CP.
