I used to have bad migraines about 10 years ago...
But here in the past year I'm getting what I have figured to be tension headaches. They are AWFUL... And I bet I have about 8 a month. I've taken all the OTC medicine but NOTHING ever helps. I have to just go to sleep and hope I wake up feeling better. I had one earlier at 3:30 and just woke up and unfortunately still have it.
Just wondering if anyone can sympathize at all and what do you do for it?
I've never gone to the dr for it... don't want to pay $30 to see DR for JUST a headache... But after this long, it's not sounding like a bad idea...

Yep used to get them real bad about 12 yrs ago.

Went to the Doc and had high blood pressure.

Been on meds for ever and try to keep at around 180lbs LOL

But feeling a ton better my dad passed away from a high blood pressure and so did my mom so I should know better then try to beat it.

Hope you feel better.

Ron.

I get bad "tension" headaches, as well. Mine seem to originate at my neck and shoulders and wrap over the top of my head. Best thing that I have found is deep tissue massage therapy.

Both myself and DD (13) get migraines (full blown with aura, vomitting, light/sound sensitivity). I've had tension headaches, cluster headaches, sinus headaches, you name it. The one OTC med that seems to work best for me/us is Excedrin (migraine for the migraines or extra strength for the tension and all the others).
You have my sympathy - they are definitely no fun. I hope you feel better soon!

Oh, it's awful. I get this terrible pain on (normally) on side of the back of my neck... And the little veins at my temples right at my hairline just THROB. You can see them throbbing. I've tried Excedrin Extra strength, migraine and tension headache, ibuprofen, tylenol and tylenol sinus. I guess I just need to break down and go see about prescription meds.

That's definitely what you need to do. Far too many underlining medical reasons that could be causing them.

I think you should go in. I was diagnosed with complicated migraines that resulted in vasculitis which caused me to have intercrainial hypertension causing me to have ischemic cerebral TIA'S!! I have to be treated in hospital via oxygen, morphine, and sugar water with caffeine:banana: to just take the edge off. I get headaches that last for days that turn into weeks, into months and they are so painful. It never goes away.:sad1: I hope you find some relief, nothing over the counter ever works for me

before one of the migraines really hits (and we all know when they are coming), I take OTC Percogesic, two of the high strength ones...

a lot of the time, I will not have to take the script migraine meds because it will calm it down so the other symptoms don't come...and the script meds knock me down for the count

I have recommended it to many people and no one yet has told me that it didn't help. It works much better than Excedrin Migraine.

BTW- I had really bad migraines years ago and it turned out that I needed braces because my jaw was out of alignment, so there might be a problem you might not know about too. They are much better now and I don't get them every week. This might help until you can get to see a Dr.

I usually get it at Walgreens however, if you don't have one, Target will work.

At Target you have to ask the Pharmacist for it because it is behind his counter. If your local drugstore doesn't carry it, ask them to. I have used it for years and I can't say enough about it warding off the nasty symptoms of the tension headaches and migraines.

Thank you for this info. Jen! If I wasn't already in my jammies, I'd be headin' to the Walgreens right now!!!!!

Whit - I sent this to you on FB, but others may benefit from it - so it bears repeating.

First - Percogesic does work well. I'd forgotten all about it!

Second - Grab a tube of Ben Gay (no similar product, but Ben Gay). Rub a small amount on your forehead, your cheeks, and on the back of your neck. If you have a sinus headache, dab a little under your nose. Take care not to get the product too close to your eyes. Take a 2 of your favorite painkillers and lay down for about 10-15 minutes.

I know how crazy this sounds, but it works! I used to get migraines years ago due to a slight case of TMJ - which braces took care of. I still get whopper headaches due to stress, tension, and sometimes sinus inflammation. Ben Gay and 2-3 Excedrin works every time.

I hope this helps you and perhaps others. :thumbsup2

It's amazing what you will try when you are desperate enough.

I called my physician yesterday to ask her about camping at Fort Wilderness. Funny - she said she doesn't know anything about it and I should maybe ask somebody who knows about camping at Fort Wilderness. Go figure.

Too bad that's not a common cure for sickness... A trip to FW... :wizard:

Another cause for headaches is your back/neck is out of whack. The Chiropractor took care of my headaches.

I wondered what you would have to say about this.:rolleyes1;)

Yup, I went to the chiro for my headaches. mine are tension and with allergies i am always getting them. the otc meds would just knock me out. dh had to go in for his back and i asked about headaches. gave it a try and i couldn't believe how much better i felt. i still get them but not nearly as often and i know when i need an adjustment.

I had a medic in the army who used to tape an aspirin to his head.
