Anyone get a Palm Pre yet?

A friend of mine got one the day they came out; she said it took a little getting used to, but now she's in love with it. lol She had a Palm Trio (IIRC) for a few years and loved it but then "upgraded" to the Blackberry Storm - which she hated and took it back so she could get the Pre when it came out. The touch screen on it seems much easier to use than others I've seen.

My Palm Centro died last night....I was due for an upgrade, but they were OUT of Pre's. Since my phone was 'insured' I just got another Centro (for free) and decided to wait- with summer and kids at all the activities I can't go without a phone for the 3-4 week wait. I am sad....I really, really wanted one! Maybe next month!

I'm still within my 30 days on my new Palm PRO (850), and thought about it but I have an old $5 a month data plan and the people at the store told me I HAD to upgrade to the everything plan, which means even more $$$ a month. I just moved over to this PRO after numerous issues with the 755, so they let me upgrade early. We are on a family plan thats already running around $170 a month, this would take it well over $200 a month. No thanks, I'm starting to get used to my PRO, and the thought of an extra $480 or so a year chaps me.

I'm afraid to upgrade to it. We bought the Instinct last year....and HATE it! I'm just about at a year where I can change it out and I'm going to do it. I don't think I ever want another phone with a touchscreen. I'm so not impressed.

ACtually the PRO isn't bad, once you get used to the Windows Mobile format. Of course you have to have Outlook to sync, which meant I had to delete Office 07 and reload Office 03 or pay $100 for a copy ouf Outlook 07

I got a Pre the day it came out (showed up at 6am at Best Buy to stand in line). I love it so far. I upgraded from a centro. I'm not a huge "techie", and don't use my phone for high productivity tasks (read: business), and it works great for me. There are some people who are not as in love with it because they are heavy business users, and apparently it's missing some features that made previous palm devices perfect for business users.

If you have any specific questions about it, feel free to ask! Also, there are some great forums that have TONS of info about the Pre.... precentral.net and everythingpre.com. :flower3:

DH and I both got one on Saturday when they went on sale. We love them!

My only complaint is the battery life. Mine is lasting about a day and a half before needing to be recharged. My DH said it would last longer if I would turn the screen brightness down, but then I can't read the text!

Did anybody buy the touchstone chargers? I'd love to hear reviews on that.

Two questions: did they make you sign up for the everything plan and what desktop programs are required to sync? Reason I ask is I was forced to either go back to an older version of Office that had Outlook or purchase Outlook for $100 in order to sync the Pro.

I haven't been able to even look at one yet. Hard to find here right now. I do need to make sure that all my old software can be used on the new phone and it's getting hard to read up on what it really can do. Google hasn't been very helpful with all of that. I've had conflicting reports on if things like iSilo and eReader will be available for me to use.

I am also very unhappy that they do not have an external memory slot for the phone. I have a feeling I will be looking hard at the Treo Pro and the HTC Touch Pro instead.

So far I have not been able to get my WDW guide to go to show up in iSilo. I loaded it and all iDilo is showing me is their getting started guide. I had used Plucker on my 755 so this is new to me. Other than that the Pro is okay. Not in love with it but it does what I want it to do and I'm not committed to the $100 a month everything plan when my ancient $5 data plan works just fine.

I've been using iSilo for ages on my Palm OS devices. Are you sure you downloaded the correct version? The I know that sounds so stupid to ask, but I can tell you that I've accidentally downloaded the wrong version before and not had it work. The Plucker version isn't compatible with iSilo and it won't show up if that is what you had.

Also there is a 450 minute and everything data plan for $30 less right now you can use on the Pre. I personally don't need that many minutes so I am much happier to have this plan.

Just got mine last night. In fact, I am using it know to make this post! We ordered the touchstone chargers but they are not her yet.

Well, I already had an everything plan before I upgraded, so I didn't need to change anything as far as that was concerned.

I don't know much about syncing, as I never did it with my Centro or Treo... well... I did it like once or twice, but it was a long time ago, and I don't remember. Anyway, from what I understand, there is no "syncing" with the Pre, in the "traditional" sense (as in what you might be used to with other Palm products). I think it's all web-based, because they want you to "live in the cloud". Since I don't have much knowledge about that, you can check out this site or this site for more info

Naah, the Treo Pro (850) is WinMo, I loade d the WinMo version of iSilo, it is accessible for me. I saved the WDW2go stuff on the phone and now it's not finding it for some reason. I had been using Plucker on my Palm OS device with no problems. With the Palm OS i could simply dragand drop and itwould load on the next sync.

Thanks for the plan info, but that plan won't work for me, we're on a family plan (4 phones) and they want me to go to the family everything which would be about $400 per month!
