Anyone Game? It’s my Sep 2013 Blog! I'm home; with a TR link in #1189, 10/14

Are all of your pre-trip chores taken care of? I imagine there's lots to do.

Almost done. All the major things are taken care of. I just have the last night in Los Angeles to book.

I'm just in the process of working out what I want to do on each day on the trip and noting down addresses and directions.

It’s Time for Blissful Bites

The menus for the Food and Wine kiosks are finally out! Link here.

So those of you that may have been around for my 2010 NOT PTR may remember that I pretty much decided what NOT to eat at F&W. In case you wanted a reminder, check this out here.

This time round, it’s definitely time to take a look at which options are making it to the top of my Blissful Bites list.

  • Africa – Smaaklike ete! Spinach and Paneer Cheese Pocket
  • American Adventure Coffee Cart - I’m a coffee snob. So I suspect I might be passing on this coffee cart.
  • Argentina – Buon Apetito! I’m pretty sure I tried the empanada in 2010. So, I might go with the Beef Skewers this time round.
  • Australia – I was pretty disappointed by the NOT Lamingtons in 2010 and am pretty pleased to see that this is no longer on the menu. It will be interesting to check out the Pav. The Throw Another Shrimp on the Barbie might be something that I’d been interested to see….and possibly try.
  • Belgium – Bon Apetit! What else but the Belgium Waffle? Both of them!
  • Brazil – Bom Apetit! The scallops look all right. But we’ll see if I stop here.
  • Brewer’s Collection – Bottom’s Up! I think DH might stop here.
  • Canada – Bon Apetit! The Cheese soup is a must; as is the Le Cellier Fillet Mignon. I’ll pass on the Trout. I think I’ve tried the maple syrup salmon and it really is a sweet and fishy combination I’ll pass on.
  • Cheese – I suspect that DS will want to try the cheese combo.
  • China – ManMan Chi! I’m a sucker for Lychee. So it may well be the Happy Lychee here.
  • Crafts Beef – Chin! Chin! Possibly another one for DH.
  • Desserts and Champagne – Salut! Yes, please. I suspect the Desert Trio might be rather popular here; and it won’t be just one serve if I know DS and myself. And it will be a hard choice between the Möet & Chandon Nectar Impérial Rosé and the Nicolas Feuillatte Rosé.
  • Fife and Drum – Marching right through.
  • Florida Local – Slider! Slider! Slider!
  • France – Bon Apetit! Believe it or not, I might give this one a miss. I had the chocolate crème brulee in 2010. It was warm and so wrong. I figure that the Boulangerie will be a much better choice.
  • Germany - Guten Apetit! Apple Strudel for me.
  • Greece – Kali Oreksi! We have the largest Greek community outside of Greece in Melbourne. I think I’ll pass on the food and head straight to the Ouzo.
  • Hawaii – Where’s the Dole Whip Float????
  • Hop and Barley – Clam Chowder and the Bread Pudding for me.
  • Ireland –What happened to the Chocolate Lava Cake???
  • Italy – Buon Apetito! I’m not sure about this booth. I might settle for the Cannoli.
  • Japan – Douzo meshiagare! DS loves his sushi rolls. I’m pretty sure we’ll be trying them all.
  • Mexico – Bon Apetito! The Rice Pudding and the Sangria catches my eye here.
  • Morocco – Bil hana wish shifa! Baklava and the Mimosa Royale seem like good picks.
  • New Zealand – I might go with the Venison Sausage.
  • The Outpost – If I’m thirsty, I might have the Brown Elephant.
  • Poland – I quite like the sound of the Kielbasa and Potato Pierogie.
  • Refreshment Port – I’m by-passing Hawaii for the Dole Whip here; even if it is Orange.
  • Scotland – Ith gu leòir! The Seared salmon and the Banoffee Tart for me.
  • Singapore – Makan! Seared Mahi Mahi.
  • South Korea – Masitkke deuseyo! The Soju Fruit Slushy
  • Terra – I suspect this one will be DH’s favourite kiosk this year.

If I make it through the above list, I’m going to be rolling out of the International Gateway back to the BCV. But you have to admit, that’s a delightful list of Blissful Bites!

Looks like a good list to me! We match up on several choices.

I have a feeling Pasta will be rolling me out as well.

Hang on! I see you have mentioned a pav at the Aussie booth. I feel an age old argument coming into play :rotfl:

The fireworks pictures are so gorgeous!!! You really are so talented.

The pre-entertainment looked really interesting! (in a good way, I would've loved to watch)

we still need to comb through the F&W listing to figure out our 'must-eats' I have to make sure the boyfriend is well-fed before I give him that assigment. The last time I had him look at menus, he barely made it through one before deciding he was hungry and needed food right then! :lmao:

Our list will be quite different! but that's what makes F&W so great we can all do what we want! I have quite a few different booths' to hit, but I'm glad you have found yours! :thumbsup2

Droooool!:thumbsup2

Rolly Polly Droolly! ;)

I like your list too.

Love it! I might have to do some serious studying of those F&W Festival menus this weekend. :)

You better get cracking; otherwise your taste buds might not have enough anticipation time. :rolleyes1

The Pav is at the AUSSIE booth. It's Disney and we know they are ALWAYS right. :rotfl2:

I wasn't going to take a look at the list; but franandaj posted the link in her PTR and once I wandered in there, I figured that I might as well enjoy looking whilst I was there. :rotfl:

Awesome you're eating your way around the world!:thumbsup2

::yes:: I hope to have at least two round-the-world tickets.

Yup. F&W has something for everyone. Dana and I had different tastes as well. In the end, we shared a little of everything between us.

I think you're hitting special events, right?

Yeah, we did end up sharing most everything, I think. There were a few things that I was like "MINE" about and you were like "NO TOUCHY" about, but I think we shared quite a lot. I know the maple salmon was one, since I'd never had salmon before and didn't want to have the whole thing (although I did like it).

Sometimes being a picky eater sucks :rotfl2:

Italy : no no no to cannoli not good ...yes yes yes TRY the ravioli tastes home made like I grew up with and its GYNORMOUS ! I would have liked to buy a pot of it to go :thumbsup2

I don't think you will be the only one rolling out of there PIOprincess:

Wow you sure will lol! That's a lot of food!

I have never understood why the phrase 'throw another shrimp on the barbie' is seen as such an Australian expression... We don't even call them shrimp! :confused3 And I've never even seen anyone barbeque prawns... I'd say 'throw another snag on the barbie' or perhaps 'throw another chop on the barbie' would be much more accurate :thumbsup2

"Shrimp on the barbie" is an often-quoted phrase that originated in a series of television advertisements by the Australian Tourism Commission starring Paul Hogan from 1984 through to 1990.[1][2] The actual quote spoken by Hogan is "I'll slip an extra shrimp on the barbie for you", and the actual slogan of the ad was "Come and say G'day". It has since been used, along with some variations, to make reference to Australia in popular culture.
Details[edit source | editbeta]

The advertisement pre-dated Hogan's popularity in the 1986 film Crocodile Dundee and thus were not initially seen as celebrity advertisements in America, as he was relatively unknown in the United States (though well-known in the UK through his long-running television comedy show), although the film somewhat increased the commercial's popularity.[1]
The advertisements were developed by the Australian agency Mojo in conjunction with American agency N.W. Ayer.

I remember those TV commercials

I suspect that there will be a LOT of sharing this time round with DS. :scared:

Hmmm. I'm not really a ravioli fan. We'll see.

It isn't. We can blame Tourism Australia for that particular expression. If you've really never seen the ad, here's the youtube link.

Thanks for enlightening me :thumbsup2 Never heard of these ads lol! Though if they were around between 1984-1990 I would have been between the ages of 1-7, so probably wouldn't have taken a lot of notice :rotfl:

I wonder why Tourism Australia would promote such an expression when it's clearly not something your average Australian would actually say? They do make some weird ads...

I am so with you on getting cheese soup. No chocolate lava cake? I was hoping to try that. I have been slacking and have not even explored the menus yet.

The 1 Month Check-In!

One Month from today, I will be on a plane heading over the pond.

I still have to finalise my last two days and one night accommodation in LA; but aside from that, I think I'm mostly done....but for the packing.

I finally officially submitted my leave request today and got it approved.

In all, I asked for and got 5.5 weeks off. I know the time will come and go really quickly; but for now, I'm enjoying the delicious feeling of anticipation.

One.Month.To.Go.
