Anyone Game? 2 Castles and a Road Trip TR! Last Day and TR Wrap Up! #2796; 10/01

The Face of Happy

The Happiest Place on Earth invariably means lots of Happy Faces.

Faces with smiley eyes…….

….where people break out into song at almost every corner….

….and dance……

…dressed in the most fantastic items and carrying amazing accessories.

None more so than on the faces of my family and mvf-m11c this morning.

We’d had a great time at DCA already and there was more fun to be had!

For any long time lurker on Bret’s TRs, there are two things that Bret does not like doing. The first one was getting on a swinging car of Mickey’s Fun Wheel of Death….the other is getting wet.

I figured that as we’d spent a bit more 3D time together, it was time to push the friendship a little.

“It’ll be fun, Bret.”
“Don’t worry. Water really loves me. If anyone gets soaked, it’ll be me.”
“Besides, it’s a warm day…we’ll dry fast.”

All those lines?

They were all TRUE! Especially the one about water loving me. Every time I’ve been on a wet ride, I’m the one that gets soaked. The last time I went on Kali, I was so soaked that I needed a complete change of clothes…..down to all the unmentionables pieces of clothes; which I had fortunately brought with me because I knew from experience that I would be sopping!

So, we all went on the Grizzly Bear Run…..the faces of happy (thanks Bret, for the picture).

The faces of happy were still happy….after the ride; albeit a little more wet (again, thanks Bret).

Especially my DS…..he had been particularly keen to get soaking wet. He was the picture of happy.

Everyone happy…..except.........

.............perhaps Bret.

Turns out…..water loves him more than it loves me. He was even more soaked than DS and not exactly the face of happy when we got off the ride.
It was just as well he is soooo nice….there was no bear-like behaviour at all from him.

I tried hard not to laugh and to be suitably contrite then……but now…..now I’m the face of happy…..some 8000 miles away; with a nice big pond between us.

But it was true. It was a hot and sunny day and we all dried up quickly enough.

Soarin’ through DCA

I have some pictures of this in my collection…..

So that means that we ticked another one of those iconic DCA rides off our list as well.

We’re certainly flying through DCA this morning!

Closing out DisMeet #2 chapter with a picture

When the re-vamped Buena Vista Street was completed at DCA, one of the new additions was the Storyteller’s Statue. I love that this statue is placed on the street level and that it doesn’t place Walt Disney up on a pedestal at all.

It’s located right near the Carthay Circle.

We were really surprised to see that the statue was free; no photopass photographer or other people hovering around!

Our turn to be at one with Walt. It was rather pleasant having Bret around to take these family shots!

We grabbed a CM walking by to take one of the four (or 6) of us.

And it was here….that I finally managed to close out the chapter on grabbing an official DisMeet picture with Bret.

Heading across the Promenade

One of the many things that distinguishes Disneyland from Disney World is the fact that travel time between parks is practically non-existent.

You head out the gates of Disney California Adventure….

….look across the Compass Rose….

….straight at the gates of Disneyland (snaffled from DH’s set of pics).

It took us about 7 minutes to walk across the promenade….and that was because we stopped to take pictures.

Really, you will get to the Disneyland turnstile in less than 2 minutes! And there is no bag check to go through; as the bag check area is a common area one. So, once you get into the park area and providing you don’t head out of the promenade, you can just walk back and forth the parks to your heart’s content (assuming you have a park hopper ticket).

Halloween is not a celebration that is terribly big in Australia…..yet.

So, we were really fascinated with all the orange decorations. The Halloween pumpkin heads were out in force. DH and I had seen the Halloween decorations in WDW in 2010; but it was all new for DS. He was most impressed!

For those watching the time, all the DCA attractions we hit this morning were completed by 12.30 pm.

Yup. No grass growing under our feet!

We thought about grabbing a family shot outside Main Street station but I think we decided against it because there were a couple of photopass photographers set up.

So whilst I was admiring the landscape and architecture….

….DH was admiring the pretty princesses.

I completely missed seeing them AND missed him watching princesses other than ME!!!! D’oh!

A funeral? So sorry to read this and condolences.

But YAY for a visit to DLR. :thumbsup2

I would have. Except there was a long-ish queue for both photographers and we didn't feel like waiting.

Yay for Disneyland! I've been excited to hear about your time at DCA, but there really is nothing like the original :thumbsup2

Sorry to hear that Brett got soaked on Grizzly River Run. I got completely soaked the time I was sitting next to the entry, so next time I made sure I was sitting in the middle and managed to come out relatively unscathed. This was in winter though :rotfl:

I'm always fascinated by Halloween as it's not something we 'do' here. I'm glad I will have a chance to see some Halloween decor next year (even if it is just the very beginning!). Not sure how my parents feel about it, but I'm sure they will love all the detail when the time comes.

Still reading along her too, PiO.
We were just there too. Love Halloween time.

DD loves getting wet on Grizzly. If we are soaked, we have to ride again until appropriately drenched.....that is one thing we love about staying at the Grand, close enough for a quick change.

I totally don't mind going on wet rides...DH however absolutely hates them! He's definitely more girly than me :lmao:

I always take for granted the time it takes to get from DCA to DL. It's fantastic!

You got through heaps it seems this day as well as Dismeets! Where was the photo of a drenched Brett? That'd be me. We were disappointed that on our only visit to DCA so far, Grizzly River Run kept being down and we didn't get to ride. On the list with Carsland for next time!! Love the Halloween decorations.

I'll have to share my secret with Brett, I keep a poncho in my bag just for the wet rides as I don't like to walk around with wet pants and unmentionables.

You have some lovely shots of your family and Brett. I'm so enjoying your DL days.popcorn::

I know Bret hates getting wet, so I was surprised to read on his report that he went with you. Luckily for me, Crap hates getting wet as much as I do. It has been years since we've ridden a water ride. Xander loves getting wet, so I am in for water rides once he discovers them. For now, he is unaware! I love the swinging cars, but Xander does not. It will be a while before we ride that one again. Glad you and Bret decided at the last moment to refrain as neither of you were interested.

When I read your seven minute comment about walking across the esplanade, I immediately knew you were taking pictures, lol. I laughed when I read the rest of the sentence. You got beautiful pictures. I especially like the pictures of the Halloween decorations. They are festive and getting me excited to see them in person.

I read that Minnie's Fly Girls just stopped forever. Looks like you got to see the show just before it ended. That's some added Disney magic.

I really love how you use pictures to tell your story! Great update!!

.

The Soarin' queue looks a lot more interesting than the one at EPCOT.

DH is a smart man; I'm hoping there will be a Jasmine picture along the way. :)

I love that Storytellers statue! Fancy it being free! People didn't notice it's amazing worth. You managed to score some wonderful photographs!

Oh dear re we Brett. Poor guy. I am not partial to getting covered in h2o either. Splash mountain is one of my nemesis rides. Jo loves it so I wear my brave hat and ride it but the water I find is like a cat. It knows when there is a person that is not a fan so hangs on to that person more for devilment!

At DisneyLand Paris the two parks are very close together also. Literally the two gates are side by side it's so cute! One is MK and the other Walt Disney Studios. There is a DTD and an Earl there as well! We can get on a train near us and get off at DL Paris because they built a tunnel under the sea that connects England to France. There is a train that goes from near London all the way to the station at DisneyLand. Very cool!

Next time we go I will do a TR. We don't go a lot because it's very expensive and the CM are rude. So unDisney. The Europeans don't quite get it...

I tried to read your updates from my cell phone and it kept shutting down the phone every time I pulled up the page. :headache:

If I'd known y'all did GRR the day before I might have sat it out. I'm definitely not a get wet kind of person! The rides sound fun, but what about lunch?

Denise, when are you thinking of hitting DL? I happen to know that a local concert band will be playing in DCA on Nov 10 at 1:50pm.
