Another little known Fact about WDW - You Can't Buy a Greeting Card at All!

Before I finish up the posts for this update, there is one other thing I’d like to share.

You may remember that we were celebrating DH's birthday at WDW. With all the pixie dust we had been getting at the various dining establishments, the celebration had definitely turned into an all-week affair!

But despite all the planning that I did, there was one thing that I completely overlooked. I never did get round to getting DH a birthday card. And not that DH nor myself are big into the trappings of gift giving or adding to the Hallmark bottom line.....but DS is still of an age where these things matter and on this trip, we never really got shopping time.

It wasn;t that I had forgotten or anything. I had kinda figured it would be the sort of thing that I would be able to pick up....well.....anywhere. So it sat on the to-do list that I left at home.

I finally found the time to go look for a card at WDW. Mousegears was the perfect location for me to go find and seek when we were at Epcot.
I looked! Didn't see anything.

So I left it and didn't give it a second thought....until I got some time to look at the Marketplace.

This time I was getting desperate when I didn't find anything, mild maniacal panic was beginning to set in. Finally, I asked a CM and was completely astonished by the response.

Did you know that you cannot buy a greeting card of any description at WDW?

I certainly didn't!

The CM at the Marketplace suggested that I go to Concierge and see if they had any cards they could give me.
The CM at Concierge was rather sympathetic and went inside to see if they could find anything in the back office.
N.O.T.H.I.N.G.

So, DS and I wrote on a blank piece of paper, folded it up and that was the 'card' we gave DH.

But that CM at Concierge turned out to be awesome.

Look what was waiting for us when we got back to the room last night.

I might have been an epic fail at getting a greeting card from DS and myself.....but my Disney friends bridged that gap for me. ALL the gang signed that card and left it in the room with those balloons for DH.

Isn't that just awesome pixie dust?

What great birthday pixie dust :goodvibes

After the last effort, I'm looking forward to seeing how much you can cram into your non-park 'lazy' day :thumbsup2

That was some beautiful pixie dust the CM delivered :)

I saw one guy enjoying the Drawing Room all by himself watching a sports game. Other than that it was empty.

Can you really stick to a non-park day?!?!?!? :) What awesome pixie dust for your DH! I EoS....I've never tried their breakfast though....WPE has a great breakfast!

Very nice pixie dust It always amazes me that you can't find any greeting cards for sale at all at WDW

You can go to the front desk of your resort though and can get a card with picture and autograph of your favorite character Sometimes I did that for Ariana & her DH with one from Pluto for their anniversary when we had our Dismeet at CSR

DTD first thing in the morning ::yes:: that is THE absolute way to visit there

What peaceful resort pictures It's such a pretty resort Fred & I love to go there
Haven't stayed there but if I/we ever stay on property again this one would be in the running

Super fun update! We like our non-park days.

Love wandering around the resort when it's all quite and serene.

Yay for bus mojo! :woohoo:

Hungry kids. :scared: Hungry men. :headache:

Good job helping clean EOS. Do you get an employee discount now? :rotfl2:

Cute balloons and a signed pic is way better than any Hallmark card. :thumbsup2

Walt Disney World – No Park Plan Day 04 October 2013

I'll Wake Up! You Sleep In! (Let's enjoy the Beach Club)

"I woke up at my standard early worm avoids the bird-crack-of-dawn hour."

hehehehee... Cute!

I did my first wireless post from WDW in that chair, lower right!

PS: Also meant to say great photo essay on the Boardwalk room and lobby! And on the posts after this one, very nice on the CM's coming through for the "birthday" card! Oh ya!

:)

Nice save by the CMs on DH birthday wishes. Love all the pics around the Beach Club and I agree it's a nice elegant laid back resort.

I loved the photos from the Beach Club and I never saw anybody in the drawing room either. I do like it though.

I don't think I have ever seen a Downtown Disney bus that empty at any time of the day. We have never eaten at Earl of Sandwich. We tend to end up at Wolfgang Puck Express next door. I am planning to try Earl of Sandwich at Disneyland in November. To give them credit, they have London and Paris listed. I did not even know that there was a location in London.

That is really surprising that there are no greeting cards available at Walt Disney World with all the emphasis they place on celebrating. What a nice thing to do so to provide the balloons and the photo.

I will remember that you can't get a card at WDW. How strange!

That sounds like a relaxed morning although you're up much earlier than I generally am!

I've always wanted to try WPE for breakfast. But Earl seems to have done the trick for you!

I think this was the day that we had our Tequila lunch, and we were at DHS at Rope drop or close to it.

Welcome back. Thanks for taking the time to catch up. :flower3:

You've never seen Fantasmic!????

I think you need a special trip for that one. :wizard:

I think so too, but DH is just interested in going.. Maybe I can give him the face and he will relent..

nice breakfast... love the beach club.. my home resort!

Again I have never eaten at EOS.... I think I should be banned from WDW... :(

I was determined to stick with a 'lazy'day. :thumbsup2

That was some beautiful pixie dust the CM delivered :)

I saw one guy enjoying the Drawing Room all by himself watching a sports game. Other than that it was empty.

That would have been fantastic to be enjoying a sports game with no one else around.

I guess no one really has time to just sit around at WDW.

Can you really stick to a non-park day?!?!?!? :) What awesome pixie dust for your DH! I EoS....I've never tried their breakfast though....WPE has a great breakfast!

Jill in CO

I did contemplate WPE but EoS was probably more our style this morning.

In 2010, Disney had a program where you could write in and get a picture and autograph of your favourite program for a child. They asked for the child's name and personalised the picture. We got a great one of Mickey for DS then. Disney mailed it out to us!!

I didn't even think of asking for a picture at the front desk this trip! :headache:

I wish! No employee discount for us at EoS. But then it's only fair. We created the mess. :sad2:

I really enjoyed wandering around the World when it was empty on this trip. I had a few opportunities to do so and it kinda felt like my own little World.

That would have been a great spot to sit and complete your first wireless post. What year was that?

Thanks.

Thanks Angela.

I know it did list London and Paris. But that map sure was not of the world. :confused3

We do normally eat at WPE but there were a few sweet things on the WPE menu that we wanted to avoid this morning.

I believe you did have the Tequila lunch on this day. And we did meet up later in the day, with a few others. :rolleyes1

I think so too, but DH is just interested in going.. Maybe I can give him the face and he will relent..

Go on. Give him the face. You'll be packing for Fantasmic! in no time at all. :thumbsup2

nice breakfast... love the beach club.. my home resort!

Looks like you have a few things to head to WDW for. Go on. The Face. :thumbsup2

Who would have thought that you can't get a greeting card at WDW. With so many people there to celebrate a special event, you'd think they would sell reasonably well.

Thumbs up to that concierge. It's the small touches like that, that one usually ends up remembering the most. :goodvibes

I’m finally able to read all of your latest updates after being away.

The Hollywood Brown Derby restaurant looks very nice form the inside and the food looks so good. I have never done the F! dining experience since I am able to stake out a spot for at least two hours. I can understand that you don’t want to stake out a spot and do the dining package. Glad that you all had a great dinner that day.

I can never get tired of the Great Movie Ride at DHS. All of the pictures are very nice and clear.

And as for Fantasmic! which I am excited to read and see your pictures since you know that I am a huge fan of F! at Disneyland or Disney Hollywood Studios. Your seating area during F! looks good since you are able to get good up close pictures of the characters during the show. DL version of F! is by far more superior over DHS in my opinion since I have seen both. The advantage I like about DHS over DL is that it has seating while DL where you will have to sit on the ground unless you buy the F! dessert package or find seats (at the Riverbelle Terrace or Café Orleans) around the RoA area. As for the Pocahontas scene which is nice, the DL version with the Columbia and Peter Pan is way better. It will be nice one day when DHS version gets a full body of the dragon like the DL version. Amazing pictures from F! that night.

That was nice to be able to go to Downtown Disney and enjoy going there. I have enjoyed the DTD at WDW just like DL. But there is much more to do at WDW. That was neat to eat at Earl of Sandwich and the food looks good. I will have to remember to eat at EoS one day at the DLR. That was a great birthday pixie dust for DH.

Great updates.

He can't resist the face.....

But hopefully we will be there in May....:dance3:

Good work. :thumbsup2

I know. Funny, isn't it? In the end I was really pleased with the outcome.

Welcome back, Bret. Hope you're all recovered from your time away.

I'm not sure I would wait 2 hours to stake out a seat for Fantasmic! I know neither DH nor DS would wait that long. I'm completely in awe of you being able to do so.

Thanks.

I have finally just gotten up to date on your amazing trip report!
I really love all of your photographs, especially the ones of the Grand Canyon which has actually inspired us to finally make the trek out there! After seven trips to the USA we still haven't quite got there (yes people do this to me :confused3 ) but it is on the itinerary for 'when we go next time' :goodvibes

Thanks for reading along. And if you've made it to the US seven times in the past, it is definitely time to go see one of the Seven Natural wonders of the world. :thumbsup2
