Anyone Game? 2 Castles and a Road Trip TR! Last Day and TR Wrap Up! #2796; 10/01

(Continued from Previous Post)

Time to put this comparative nightmare to an end.

This is the section of the show where DLR version is so much better.....by a long cord.

We wait for Mickey to turn the nightmare around.

Have you spotted it yet?

My telezoom does illuminate things a lot.

Despite the pixie dust, the magic is lost. Sad, isn't it?

This short sequence just seem to go on forever.

So let’s just plug it in and shout it round the Dis, shall we?

It's a distinctively unmagically bust for me.

For the record, the DLR version does it with less sparklers but use flashy lights and smoke to kill off the dragon.

And then the show moved on. From one bust to another bust.

Steamboat Mickey just cannot help disguise....

....and even the characters cannot help here.....

.....This really isn't a Mark Twain Show Boat, is it?

But it does end well.

I always enjoy seeing Sorcerer Mickey. Love the costume, love the hat!

At the end of the show, my personal viewpoint stands. For me, the DLR version wins hands down.

You can decide which version you prefer.

The End of a Great Day

In planning this trip, Alison and I had figured this could be a night we might make it to Jelly Rolls. Sadly, reality was a long way away from the planning.

After Fantasmic!, we all decided to head back to the resort. It had been a full-on day for me and my boys and we were tired. I think Fran and Alison were tired too; so we waited for a Friendship at DHS to take us back to the resort.

But the night wasn't quite over for me. Alison and I had chatted during the show and we decided that we needed to do some prep work for our DisMeet on Saturday night.

So, I headed back to her room and completed a few tasks that would save me time for the Saturday DisMeet. Besides, this moment gave me some time to just have some normal life conversation with both Fran and Alison. Don't ask me what the conversation was about because I've forgotten.

By the time I finished, all I could do was just crawl into bed and crash.

I have to say I must have seen Fantasmic ! at WDW about 10 times Only now have I seen things I never could see before because of the close up shots you have Very nice ! Never been to DLR but have definitely heard their version is much better

Isn't it lovely to spend time with friends and just have some normal real life conversations ? :goodvibes That has been my favorite part of the Dismeets over the years

Ok I haven't seen the WDW version of F! But going by your photos, I agree that DLR's version is better :thumbsup2 That dragon and boat look kind of disappointing!

Nice pics!

I like Disneyland's F! better too. I think the seating for WDW's was more thought out though. You had a terrific viewing spot.

I like The Great Movie Ride and agree the Wicked Witch is the best animatronic. I do think the cops and robbers scene is fun but outdated for many. It goes right over my kids' heads.

And Indy. :clod9:

Fun updates as always! :thumbsup2

FYI - DW started reading your TR this morning. She's been having a lot of fun, and is just making it to Sedona with you right now. It's fun to hear her chuckle out loud at some of your captions/comments. And not to mention the periodic, "Ah... that looks good" when she scrolls into a food photo :cool1:

The Great (non Universal) Movie Montage

Arguably one of the best musicals ever made! But don't ask me to pick between Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire. That would be like asking me to pick between Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse.

I have one word for you PIO.

Brigadoon.

:)

Just for your pleasure, since you like the GMR, from a friend of mine, taken in 92:

And I saw Fantasmic at DL back mid-90's, sorta just suddenly happened there in the river and I just sat down and watched it- liked it MUCH better than the show at DHS.

:)

Jud

I am not surprised that you were all tired. What a busy day you had. I love the Fantasmic! photos and I agree with you that the Disneyland version is better. I enjoyed them both though and I love neither version as much as I love World of Color.

Corinna

I'll jump on the DL Fantasmic bandwagon with you, it's my favorite. I enjoy the Movie ride, but I think quite a few of the scenes go right over even my kids head.

::yes:: Another one here with the same opinion that the DL's F! is better!

I remember what we talked about. If it's not TMI, we talked about your DS growing up and how he experienced some "me" time on this trip rather than "Parent" time, and how you and your DH felt about that.

I think we talked a lot about selling stuff on eBay because Fran was listing LE F&W merchandise while you and I were prepping veggies!

Yes. Real life conversations are the best. :thumbsup2

The seating is better for viewing F! at WDW; but aside from that DLR wins hands down.

The GMR is very dated; but it's so dated that it works. :lmao:

Yes, we did have a good viewing spot. And we kept further up so that Fran didn't have too far to walk down (or walk back up).

Fun updates as always! :thumbsup2

 Hi MarbleBob's DW. Hope you're enjoying the TR and thanks for reading along!

Thanks Bob. :thumbsup2

Brigadoon.

:)

Jud

I actually think Seven Brides for Seven Brothers comes closer. The songs in Brigadoon aren't quite memorable enough.

And there are a bunch of Vincent Minnelli musicals that also get close. I love Gigi, An American in Paris and the Bandwagon as well.

WOW! It looks exactly the same. Thanks for sharing.

Yes, DLR is a better version of F! :thumbsup2

World of Colour strikes a deeper emotional chord with me. All that childhood memories of watching the Wonderful World of Disney.

I'll jump on the DL Fantasmic bandwagon with you, it's my favorite. I enjoy the Movie ride, but I think quite a few of the scenes go right over even my kids head.

DLR F! has quite a few supporters here. :thumbsup2

Those movies might be classics for Old Fogies like us. Shame that the kids don't really watch those old movies.

You definitely have a better memory than me. I remembered it was every day stuff we talked about but couldn't remember what the topics were. But then I was too busy chopping. ;)

And I do remember Fran on eBay with the F&W merchandise.

Great F! pictures. I say DL's version of the show is better but Florida's seating is far superior. ;)

So you have posted a lot since I was last here, way back on page 131…. :faint:

Your day at DHS,

I guess I never thought about Hans Solo and Indiana Jones being the same, but you did point out some very compelling evidence.

Glad you got a different sequence on Star Wars this time, and that it was very empty so you had time to get Robot Shots!

I have never been on toy story, is it really worth it?

Your Mother’s Day setting was beautiful!

Loved the stunt shows sots, you did amazing!

I love RnRC. It is one of our favorite rides; I swear we ride it multiple times while we are there.

Glad to see DS got his band back!

ToT is our favorite ride… I am scared and laughing at the same time, but then again, I have not experienced it in real life either. I know that was scary and there is no need for a repeat at WDW…

Brown Derby – What can I really say except the food looks amazing…..

I have never seen Fantasmic!

All caught up now...

Welcome back. Thanks for taking the time to catch up. :flower3:

You've never seen Fantasmic!????

I think you need a special trip for that one. :wizard:

At the end of the show, my personal viewpoint stands. For me, the DLR version wins hands down.

Your photos are amazeballs - I have never seen Fantasmic clearly in any version (though we all thought TDL was the best version to date closely followed by DLR)... but this let me actually SEE what was happening. Only I can't remember such a long Pocahontas scene in the WDW version when we saw it?

Awww. Thanks Wendy. Glad you can actually see the show. :thumbsup2

I didn't remember the long Pocahontas scene either until I sat through it again at WDW. It's a different scene at DLR.

Walt Disney World – No Park Plan Day 04 October 2013

I'll Wake Up! You Sleep In! (Let's enjoy the Beach Club)

So after the full day at DHS yesterday, DH and I decided that we would have a sleep in today. Afterall, we really didn't have any fixed park plans for this day.

Yeah.

The boys slept in. I woke up at my standard early worm avoids the bird-crack-of-dawn hour. I really did try to sleep in and stay in bed.

Really I did.

I figured that if I couldn't sleep, there was no point wasting the morning. So, I got up, got ready and grabbed my camera. DH heard me go and muttered in his sleep. Yeah. You sleep in. I'll head out to check out the Beach Club.

At this hour, there was no one in the Beach Club Villa Drawing Room.

It was all mine to enjoy. I love the furniture in here.

Aspects of this room really work for me.

There are collections of furniture that make for cosy nooks and a lovely place to spend some time with loved ones.

But really....it's a bit too sparsely spread out for me. I don't think I saw anyone in here whilst we stayed here this week. Anyone else who stays here see anyone else here?

It was promising to be another great day at WDW.

We really had a lot of blue sky days on this trip.

I was trying to remember what time I had gotten out of bed this morning and finally remembered when I saw this shot. I got to the Marketplace a little after 7.30 am. Isn't it funny how the memory works?

I hadn't taken any pictures of the Beach Club lobby yet. Time to remedy that oversight.

Product placement is everything! They really need to put some Dramamine along that ship for people like me.

I decided to head up the stairs to the mezzanine floor.

The thing I love about the Beach Club is the ambience of relaxed comfort. It's pieces of furniture like this that adds to it all.

That....and the fact that I find the Beach Club lobby to be one of relaxed elegance.

I'd like to say that I resemble this casual elegance in real life; but really, I'm a klutz.

I'm assuming that these folks are waiting for a table to be ready at Cape May.

By this stage, I'd gotten a text from DH wondering where I was. The boys had gotten up and were ready to start the day.

Let's Get Started. No Park Plans means Cramming as much in as Possible

The boys really WERE ready....and hungry.

Did I mention that today was a no park plan day? Given what happened on our last no park plan day a couple of days ago, I was determined to work hard to stick with the plan.

I suggested a day at the resort starting with breakfast at the Marketplace. However, neither DH nor DS felt like having breakfast at the Marketplace so I made the suggestion that we head to Downtown Disney. Afterall, having a no park plan day didn't mean that we couldn't go to DTD, right?

The transport system was kind to us this morning. The bus pulled up just as we sat down at the bus stop. I think even the driver was a little surprised to see us get on. I'm guessing that hitting DTD early in the morning is not something that a lot of guests do.

It didn't take us long to reach our destination.

Guess who was lagging behind......again?

Despite us "sleeping in", we still made it to DTD before the retail shops opened.

It's a sad day when you realise your kids are too 'grown up' to pose in those head magnets.

It was a very empty DTD this morning.

DS really was hungry. He wasn't happy with me taking yet more pictures.

It was definitely time to go look for some food.

(Continued from Previous Post)

Breakfast with the Earl

There really was only one place I was heading to at this side of DTD.

We were going to have breakfast with the Earl.

I had figured that DH might be able to find something suitable to eat in here.

There were a few healthy'ish options.

I'm definitely no fruit loop when it comes to looking after his pesky vegetarian diet.

We placed our order and found a table to sit at. There might not be a lot of people outside but there were a few people hitting DTD early like us afterall.

I have to admit that I was most amused by this.

Did you spot why?

The last time I checked an atlas, the world was bigger than North America.

Whilst we were waiting for our order to be ready, we had gotten cups of water to drink. I must have been pretty tired this morning as I ended up spilling my full cup all over the table and on the floor. You really can't take me anywhere!

DH and I spent a good 5 minutes wiping down the table and trying to soak up as much water as possible off the floor. It took that amount of time before an attendant came over with the mop and bucket to finish the job. The way I figured it, I'd done a good deed for the day. That corner was a LOT cleaner than it had been when we had got there.

EoS gave us a buzzer so that we would know when our order was up. It took a little longer than I would have expected. But not by a significant amount.

DH ordered the healthiest thing on the menu.

He was very pleased with his choice.

DS and I both ordered the same thing.

We were pretty hungry and so the bacon, egg and cheddar roll didn't last too long.

It had been way too many days since I last had caffeine; and I was feeling a little tired this morning. So I made sure that I ordered a cup of Joe. I have been on this holiday for way too long. This coffee tasted drinkable to me.

After we wolfed the food down, we just sat there for a bit 'enjoying' the coffee. Truth be known....the 3 of us just wanted to sit still for a bit and check in on our various online addictions.
