I live in the area. I am not a huge fan of living in Florida, but if I have to (and I do have to) then this is where I would want to be! There are a couple of Temples, so yes we have a Jewish population. The school system is pretty good as far as Florida schools go.

Traffic is a little rough, especially on Wickham Road and portions on US1 and 192 and I-95 because infrastructure has not kept up with development. But it isn't like a big city.

There is a less than 3% unemployment rate, so jobs are booming.

A good selection of restaurants. More and more have been opening, especially in the Viera area.

Feel free to PM me about any specific questions!

I just wanted to add, there are issues with obtaining homeowner's insurance through an insurance companyand with the the price of homeowner's insurance if you are lucky enough to get it without going through the state. If you have to go through the state, it is even MORE expensive. Also, property taxes are pretty high thanks to the rise in real estate. Home prices have dropped a bit, but not a whole lot.

average price of homeowners insurance? and what about taxes?

here in NYC, i pay about 3000 year for 2 cars

homeowners about 1000

and re taxes are about 2500

Hello--what questions do you have?

Homeowners insurance is contingent upon whether you are beachside or mainland..costs more based on if you are on the island or not. Also contingent on teh size of your house.

I don't pay a whole lot of taxes b/c we bought in 1999..it is based on your home value of course...we have homestead exemption (I forget how you qualify--but if you buy a home and it is your primary residents and you become Florida residents--I think you would qualify...that helps reduce them).

Our auto insurance is wayyyy less that what you pay. Id' have to ask hubby when he gets home but I know it isn't more than $100 or so per month for a newer van (2005) and a car.

There is a Jewish Temple that has a lot of activities. They always advertise in Space Coast parent--they have things for the little ones and you (like a mommy and me) and probably other things.

Traffic is worse in the snowbird season. Certainly not big city traffic--but as hubby commented yesterday on his drive home from work (AFTER he spent a year in metro DC in their traffic)...he hates winter b/c of the early bird special--lots of folks on the road leaving restaurants while he is trying to get home.

Restaurants--we have lots of them..chain restaurants and local places (Especially beachside on the local places as well as a couple on the river around town).

Any questions feel free to PM though Miss Jasmine may be able to answer better as I have that foggy pregnant brain.

It is a very nice area to be and a nice area to raise kids. The most common complaint among teens is the lack of things to do...that can be a good or bad thing depending on how you look at it. ;)
