Anyone from the Lansing Michigan area?

I am going to be moving there in mid september to join my fiancee who is going to law school out there. He has been out there for a year - but I had to wait until I finished to join him.


So - Is there anything I should know abou the area?

How is the job market will I have trouble finding a job?

How far is lansing from Ann Arbour? Detroit?

Basically is there any thing else I should know when I move there?

PM me anytime!!! with anything you want to know & what I don't already know I'll find out for you. I live about 1/2 hour from Lansing. I go to a mall in East Lansing to shop fairly often.
My brother & my nephew also attend that law school.
It's about a 45-50 minute drive from Lansing to Ann Arbor & probably about an hour & 15-20 minutes to Detroit.
What kind of job are you looking for?

We are from East Lansing.

We really enjoy this area. It's a good size town with a small town atmosphere.

Michigan State University offers a lot of activities for families and they have beautiful gardens you can walk through.

Will you be in the Lansing area or a surrounding area like E. Lansing or Okemos?

We lived in Okemos before we purchased a house in E. Lansing. We looked at houses in Lansing but were much happier with the schools in E. Lansing so we bought here.

Ann Arbor is fairly easy to get to. I don't think it would take more than an hour. We always go through Ann Arbor when we are headed to Florida. It's also a beautiful town.

If there is anything else you want to know, just ask.

What line of work are you in? I think the job market here is pretty strong. I think it is stron gor law, government, education, service industry-all kinds of businesses in E. Lansing are hiring as they prepare for thousands of students to return to classes.

Well my FH goes to Cooley - so he is in Lansing - not too far from the outback (if that helps?)

I'm really not sure - I just graduated from Law school - but now I am not sure if I want to practice or not. So not sure - but that sounds good!

I think you'd have a decent shot at a law practice here. You could also consider working for the state government in some type of legal capacity.

Lansing is the capitol of MI-not sure if you knew this. So, downtown is pretty full of government and law offices.

I hardly ever get over into Lansing. There are a lot of apartments/townhomes/etc. in the East Lansing area because of the huge student population. Luckily, we don't have a lot of rentals in our neighborhood-a lot of late night parties.

We lived at a place called Meridian Meadows before we purchased our house. It's townhomes and is located in Okemos. You might be able to find more info about it on the internet.

My DH works in Lansing on Miller Road near Cedar. He works for the cable/internet provider in the area. I think there is an outback near there and one on Saginaw. I thought that Cooley was downtown so maybe they put an outback in downtown. I think a lot of people who go to school and work in Lansing actually live in one of the outlying areas.

There are also 1 or 2 General Motors plants in Lansing. The auto industry is a big influence on the area.
