I will be going there for 3 weeks for work next month and was wondering what there was to do there for fun, resturants, etc... also how far is hilton head from there?

Hi,
I am from Gastonia it is about 20 miles south west of Charlotte. Charlotte has a great uptown area, very pretty. There is lots of malls and shopping. Hilton head is about 5-6 hours away. Myrtle Beach is closer at only 4 hours away. Grandfathers Mountain is about 1 1/2 hours away. Sorry that is about all I can help with.

YES, we love Myrtle Beach. It is a nice big beach, with lots to do. Weather is nice this time of year also.
Here are some nice shopping areas also:
Concord Mills Mall
Carolina Place

Have Fun--

Where will you be staying? When we go down we are usually going to see live music. There are usually good plays and other cultural events downtown. There are several good malls and lots of nice restaurants.

As far as the beach goes Myrtle Beach is fun and has lots to do, very touristy and fun. If your looking for something more quiet and pretty check out the beaches near Wilmington, NC, especially Bald Head Island (very nice, but quite expensive)

I will probably being staying very close to the airport as that is where my meetings/training are in the airport. How far away is Bald Head Island from Charlotte? I really want to go to Hilton Head, I might not have a another opportunity to go again (as inexpensive I should say) beacuse I could just drive in the rent car I will have. However Myrtle Beach is always someplace I've always wanted to visit...decisions, decisions!!!

One other thought I had in my head is have my airline fly me to orlando one weekend instead of home... That woul be awesome to try to get a weekend trip out of this ;)

Maybe each of the 3 weekends I can do one trip - 1. Myrtle Beach, 2. Hilton Head, 3. WDW

Thanks for all the info...sorry that I wrote a book, just sort of thinking out load LOL

Never thought I would see a post like this on Dis but I was looking for almost the same thing. We want to visit Mooresville. I want to go to JR Motorsports and Mom wants to go to DEI (or should I say TEI), DD7 wants to go to Carowinds. Any suggestions on where to stay???

As you can see I am not from NC but have visited my friend who lives in SC & works about 20 mins from the airport.

We have driven down to Hilton Heas with him & had a lovely week in a condo right next to the beach.

Near the airport at Charlotte there are the normal TGI's, Damons & Ruby Tuesdays. In Charlotte there is the Discovery museum & freedom park. At one of the malls there is a Cheesecake factory that is lovely.

We also went to Daniel Stowe Botanical gardens & enjoyed a few hours there.

The best thing for my DD is the ice-cream place called Brewsters near our friends house - it's open late & great just to go to & enjoy!!

I lived in Charlotte for 12 years and recently moved to Hilton Head Island. I think it only took me 4 hours from Charlotte to Hilton Head when I was moving. Of course, I was on the south side of town.

Charlotte has some really nice areas that are very pretty - some not so nice areas too - which I why I moved. There is a Disney Store in Carolina Place Mall if you need a Disney fix!

If you are a shopper, I would head north on 85 and go to Concord Mills Malls. Great restaurants, shops, and movie theater. It is a couple miles from Lowe's motor speedway if you have any interest in racing. The track is open for tours and they have a nice little gift shop. Rick Hendrick's shop is just down the street from the track as well as the Backing up classics motor car museum. It is the area to stay in for those coming for the racing attractions with a lot of nice new hotels. My Dad loves the Bass Pro Shop at this mall.

You might want to check out gocarolinas.com and see if there will be any special events going on at the Convention center or Merchanside Mart will you are in town.

If you are training in the airport, you will probably be staying in the Tyvola Rd area. If you stay head east on Tyvola (away from the airport) the road eventually becomes Fairview (after you cross South Blvd) and will lead you to SouthPark Mall and THE CHEESECAKE FACTORY. One of the things I miss most about Charlotte.

Please feel free to ask if I can be of anymore help. Enjoy your visit:)
