My kids don't do very well on long drives, so looking for flights to Hilton Head. Southwest doesn't fly into anything really close by, other than Jacksonville. Can anyone give me some tips on which airlines to look into for cheaper flights to the surrounding area?

You can easily fly into Charlotte from Toronto or Buffalo. It is a three and a half hour drive from Charlotte to Hilton Head.

You can also get flights from Charlotte to Hilton Head on US Air.

Jacksonville is only a 2 and a half hour drive to Hilton Head but there are no direct flights to Jacksonville. It is the closest major airport (other than Savannah which doesn't seem to have any direct flights from Toronto or Buffalo either but is about half an hour away.)

If you want the quickest flight with one stop to Hilton Head, you need to go through Charlotte or Atlanta.

Here's another option.

They fly out of Niagara Falls, New York into the Myrtle Beach Airport. Still a 4 hour + drive once you land.

Are you sure about the not driving the whole way?

A DVD player is a great distraction.

The earlier advice about direct flights to Atlanta and Charlotte are also great options.

Driving would be so much easier but my kids (age 5,3,3) get easily car sick even after two hours of driving, even with a DVD player. Driving from Toronto to Buffalo is probably the limit of what they could do.

That's why flying into Savannah may be the best because flying into Atlanta or Charlotte would still be a 3-4 hours. We can use Aeroplan points to fly from Pearson to Charlotte but the drive is the thing. But it would still run us $1800 to fly from Buffalo to Savannah.

Flying Southwest from Buffalo to Jacksonville would be more do-able - provided I get a nice Southwest fare. I could hold out for a DING I guess.

You can use Aeroplan points to fly directly into Hilton Head since US Air is a partner. Call them directly sonce booking via the internet tries to put you through Washington and then to Atlanta and then to HIlton Head where you can do it with just one connection. If you book way in advance you should be able to do it for 25000 points per person. You should be able to fly into Charlotte on Air Canada and then into Hilton Head (not Savannah) on US Air.
