I haven't flown Air Transat ever. I had always heard negative things about it but now I see some amazing deals ($199 inc tax YYZ-MCO!!) and wonder if I can get over my air travel snobbishness for a great price. I see they often (always?) use Canjet planes.

Any info or personal experiences about Air Transat? I'd love to read it!

They are terrible. everything about our last set of flights with them was bad. the guy at the counter wouldnt talk to me when i asked him how his day was going, just blanked me. But i can deal with ignorant people. What I couldnt deal with was them changing our flight from a transat flight to a canjet flight coming home and not telling me. we arrived at the airport and there was nothing. I got in the canjet line making an assumption and after an hour on the phone to someone they finally confirmed my flight was in fact the canjet one and it had been delayed 5 hours. not fun with a 1 year old. To top it off I emailed them and got no response. I then called and they told me they had received my email and would respond...they never did. They lost my business for good. Absolutely terrible.

The wqorst part is I called from the hotel to confirm my air transat flight was on time and they said it was. When i got to the airport and saw nothing i called transat directly and they said my Transat flight was on time. It took them an hour to find someone who could confirm that there was no transat flight and that i was on the canjet flight. Stay away!!!!

We have flown transatlantic to the UK with AirTransat a number of times and the flights have always been really good. Food was okay as far as airplane food goes, entertainment was limited as it was not back seat screens.

We found the staff helpful, the flights were on time.

Maybe it depends on where you are flying!

I think if the usual experience to MCO is like TheBig2na's, I'd rather spend the extra $1000 and fly WJ. I had always heard horrendous things about AT. Too bad that they haven't changed. I wish they were great (especially with those prices) but if they aren't I'd rather not waste my time.

Thanks for the responses!

We've used them to fly overseas twice and the experience was nothing but pleasant. In fact, far better than my domestic flights.
Maybe their international service is a notch above their domestic. We booked a package with them and the cost of our hotels and flights was less than the flight would have been on its own!
I was pleased with the service, the plane and the employees. However, if I had the experiences TheBig2na had, I wouldn't be.

we have used air transit when we fly to portugal but never to orlando. and never had a problem with the airline

We've flown them twice to the US and never again. They have a limited fleet so if something goes wrong you can get stuck like we were both time is the US for 6-8 hrs while they looked for replacement planes and crews. The planes were shoeing wear and tear and on one flight there was this really cold breeze at the floor near a door and I mean really cold. Service was at best so so. Never again.

My DH and I have used Air Transat (Canjet planes) YYZ to MCO our last 2 trips to the World in 2010 and 2011. They are certainly nothing fancy but we have never had a problem with them. The crew have always been really nice and we have never had a delayed or cancelled flight, we actually arrived early to either YYZ or MCO a couple of times. :thumbsup2 The flights are REALLY early though which is kind of a pain, but other than that, no problems.

We would rather save on a flight and stay in a nicer resort or have more spending money.:cool1: Totally personal choice though! If you really like flying with a different airline, I say pay the extra and fly with them. You wouldn't want to start off your magical vacation on a negative note!

:banana:Happy planning!!

We flew AT to the Dominican.
I became nervous when they said there would be no in flight entertainment as the plane was under renovations.

Flew Air Transat out of YYZ a a few years back. Flight was delayed by six hours. The plane was okay but big and crowded. Not much leg room for a tall person. Attendants were perfunctory but nice enough.

On arrival at MCO, we were put through a brutal security process. It was not fun. Maybe they pre-clear U.S. Customs in Toronto now, but didn't then. Return flight was less eventful and on time.

Nothing terrible about the Air Transat flight overall. But nothing great either. I might fly them again, but it would not be my first choice. Recently, we have been driving to Syracuse (from the Ottawa area). The rates are good and jetBlue is a far superior airline.

:scared1: I would have had to double up on the Ativan if I heard that.

Flew Transat to Portugal and it was fine.
Flew Air Canada to San Diego and it sucked.
Flew WJ to Vegas and it was okay.
Flew Air Trans to MCO and it was crowded.

sometimes it just sucks to be in an air bus.

I have booked a number of families and couples with Transat for the short duration flight to Florida and they were all fine, no major hiccups. The good news is they are updating their fleet for more comfort. If you are looking at the charter flights you could also look at Sunwing.
