Anyone flown to Jacksonville then driven to WDW?

Hi Everyone

Because the flights are still pretty expensive for March Break 2008 I have been considering flying to Jacksonville and driving from there to WDW (the cost is a LOT cheaper).

Just wondered if anyone else has done this and if so, what was your experience doing this?

We have flown into JAX, then drove to WDW (plus, I've driven by JAX a number of times, enroute to WDW). When we flew into JAX, it was becuase we were flying on frequent flyer points, and we couldn't get a flight into Orlando (but flights were available into JAX).

It's a pretty easy drive - about 2 hours (or slightly less).

Next Q is did you have any problems with renting a car at JAX and did you also fly out of JAX back to Buffalo?

(we are also considering flying into JAX then flying out of MCO)

Have you looked at flights going to Tampa also.... or from Rochester to MCO or Tampa - it's less then an hours easy drive to Tampa and rochester is only about 45 mins past Buffalo airport. We got a much cheaper rate when we did our last minute trip in May by flying from ROC to TPA rather then BUF to MCO.

if you search at www.kayak.com you can tell the search engine to search nearby airports. We're having a hard time finding a reasonable flight from either Buffalo or Rochester to San Juan for our March break cruise. So far best price i've found is $416 USD but I do have hope it's going to drop a bit.

With all major rental car companies in Florida you can rent a car at one airport and return it to a different airport (in Florida), with no drop charge. Just make sure your reservation specifies that. Most will be unlimited mileage rentals although some require you to stay within the state.

No probem, we rented from Alamo.

and did you also fly out of JAX back to Buffalo?

When we flew into JAX, we were living in NS at the time, so we flew YHZ-Newark-JAX (and then return).

I'd echo the thoughts as others, re other Florida airports. You can try Tampa (TPA), St. Petersburg-Clearwater(PIE) or Sarasota (RSW).

I am considering flying to Jacksonville also. Skybus has great fares (some as low as $10) from CMH to St. Augustine (Jacksonville/Daytona area).
