My mother MAY go with us on our next trip to the *world*. The problem is she is terrified of flying because she is TERRIBLY claustrophobic (sp?). We will have to heavily sedate her to get her on the plane :o ;) :D . So, I have to be really careful with the size of the plane that I book. The bigger, the better! Anyway, I was checking out the USAirways' flights and was wondering what size these planes are. Has anyone ever riden or seen a Fokker Jet 100, or a Dehavilland Dash 8 (used by USAirways Express - Piedmont Airlines)? The later one sounds like a crop duster to me which will NOT fly with my mother! Any one an expert on airplanes or jets out there? TIA

The Fokker 100 is one of the smallest big planes if that makes any sense :) It's a real jet aircraft, just one of the smallest. It seats around 100 people and has 3 seats on one side and 2 on the other (3-2 seating ... or is it 2-3 ...).

The Dash 8 is a twin engine prop plane ... a fairly large one, but typically it seats around 37 (but there are larger ones, but I don't think US operates the really large Dash 8's).

a person isn't shoved into spaces with no leg or arm room......just a thought

Thank you Beckles for the good descriptions. That's pretty much what I was afraid of.:( I think my mother would litterally die before she would get on a plane that small. Thanks again for the info, better to know now than after I bought the tickets and we went to board!:D

Pumba - not a bad suggestion. I may be buying her ticket though, and that makes 7 tickets I've got to buy.:o Not sure the ole budget can handle that one?! :D
