We will be going to WDW in Oct. about a week before my birthday. But will be leaving before my actual birthday. Did anyone ever visit right before or right after a special occasion but tell the staff the occasion was actually taking place during your stay? Just wondering?

We visited shortly before our anniversary, as we were not able to travel during the actual anniversary date. We told them we were celebrating our anniversary early--in fact it was actually a very delayed honeymoon! We were honest and made it clear it wasn't our actual anniversary though. THe BW sent cuvee and chocolates to the room.

Just be aware that not every resort does something special. We were at BCV last week for my DD's "Sweet 16", which was noted on the ressie. When we checked in, the CM noticed we were celebrating a birthday the next day! But my DD got nothing!!! When I questioned DVC about it after I got home, I was told that BCV does not do anything for special events!!!

I would just tell them that you are celebrating your birthday. You don't have to tell them that it is your birthday. No need to lie about it. :D

We're going 2wks after my DD's birthday and just 2 wks before my DGD's birthday...I'm taking them as birthday trips, but since it's not actually thier birthdays, I haven't mentioned it. Not even to my DU agent. I don't think they could/would do anything to make the trip any more special than it already is....and don't want to be disappointed if they make no efforts at all. If it were on thier actual birthdays, I would mention it for their birthday dinner though.

My DS turned 11 on our recent trip to BWV. I didn't let them know ahead of time, but did when we checked in. They didn't do anything, which really didn't matter to us. We celebrated his birthday at Discover Cove, where they gave him a free birthday smoothie. We also had dinner at 50's Prime Time, where our waiter sent over a table of 4 teenage girls to sing happy birthday to him and deliver his cupcake. Finally, we had sundaes at Beaches and Cream, where they sang happy birthday and gave him a balloon. I have heard of some resorts doing something special, but you may have better luck at the restaurants. Just let every place you go know it's your birthday celebration, and you are bound to have some fun!

Roliepolieoliefan, have you considered setting up a pre-birthday celebration for yourself? According to the Walt Disney World website's FAQ:

Q. Is there anything special I can plan for a birthday or special occasion?

A. A variety of activities are available at our Resort to help make birthdays more special and memorable. For instance, your family may wish to dine with the Disney characters at one of our many character breakfasts, lunches, or dinners. Call (407) WDW-DINE (939-3463)† to find out more about how to create a memorable celebration for your birthday or special occasion.

I have heard of folks here on the Dis who contacted the GF Bakery and ordered a birthday cake. Everyone has claimed that they are quite yummy. By the way, Happy (early) Birthday! :D

We will be at WDW also October 19-26th, and my DD turns 8 on the 27th...we see no problem in letting them know we are celebrating our DD b-day early, and she definitely has no problem with it...we will do the birthday pin at MK on the last day we are there to make it closer to her day !

Have a great trip !!

I second the, "I'm celebrating my birthday" tactic. This is a matter of semantics anyway, but that statement is 100% true and would pass a lie detector test. Problem solved.

People don't always celebrate on the exact day. Most kids have parties on a Saturday close to their b-day. I wouldn't balk at saying you're celebrating a birthday. There is no law that you have to celebrate only on that specific day. In our house we celebrate birthdays all week largely due to out-of-town relatives sending gifts. My 10 yr. old turns 11 on Nov 13, but we are celebrating it one day at WDW during our Thanksgiving trip. I'm making him a b-day shirt, and the other 2 will get "It's My UNbirthday" shirts. To be fair we might let each have a day to celebrate while at WDW. Enjoy your birthday celebration!

Our 25th wedding anniversary was in Sept. 2000 but due to paying for our daughter's wedding the previous June we weren't able to celebrate until the next January. We spent 4 nights at the Contemporary Resort at WDW and then took a 7-night Disney Magic cruise. We told both that we were celebrating our 25th anniversary, at the Contemporary they gave us a cute Mickey mini-snowglobe, a Magic Kingdom book, and a photograph of Cinderella's castle with fireworks and a personalized note was on the photo, congratulating us on our anniversary. On the cruise we received an anniversary cake one night at dinner, and several of the servers sang to us. It was very nice, and it all added to our celebration and vacation.
