Anyone ever stay at the Orang Lake Timeshare....I think we are in West Village

read some bad reviews about it....just wanted to get other input!!!

Stay ed several times at Orange Lake. It is a beautiful resort. The one bad thing is that it is very large and the activities centre around the various "villages" . The "villages are West, North and East. To walk from West where you are that has a large club house, great pools, beach on lake with water craft and bingo around pool most days for big bucks to the East Village where there is a great water park with lazy river, tube slides, hammock beach etc, is quite a walk (probably 30 mins). There is shuttle buses but I found that you may wait a while. So depending what you like this resort has it all. You can drive or walk or wait for shuttle to go to other "village". If you are in the West Village you probably have enough to do right there unless the water park is important then go for an afternoon. All villages amenities are for all villages. Oh don;t forget the 3 golf courses or is it 4 on property including a lit executive course and mini golf etc. etc.

If you are buying grocerys DO NOT go to on site grocery. Leave Orange Lake go east on 192 to Hwy 27 and go north to first light (Craiggan Crossings) and there is a Wal mart super store that grocery is half the price of Orange Lake Publix. This is only at best 2 miles.

Anything I can help you with let me know. I am very familiar with that area and Orange Lake.

West Village. The kids called them Monopoly houses and complained all week that we didn't choose Vistana. I complained all week because they charged $1 for toll free phone calls and had other stupid charges.

A friend just got back from River Island, which I thought would be nice, and still had lots of complaints.

You can probably do better, but some folks love it.

Sheila

We stayed there in June 2008 (must have been East because it wasn't far from River Island area) and we had no complaints. The units were clean and nicely furnished. Plenty of parking. Nice pools. Good location for Disney. Lots of restaurants nearby.

We stayed at Vistana last June and by contrast got an old, rundown unit, pools were nice but there were never towels, parking was tight, and the units were SO loud...we could hear the family above us screaming and running around until 3am each night. But again, the location was great.

I would choose OL again over Vistana just given our experience...but then again, if we had been placed in one of the newly refurbished units at Vistana I might have raved about them like everyone else seems to. Guess YMMV.

Stayed at Orange Lake several times. Never had a problem. Resort is huge. You can stay all week and never leave the resort. Restaurants on site. Super target right across the street.

We have stayed at Orange Lake many times and have never been unhappy. The location is great. It is a huge resort. We have never stayed in west village, always North. Have a great time!

We own at OL west and we love it. I prefer the west villas because we just walk into our villa. The newer buildings are like apartments. We stayed in one once and we could hear people above us all night long.

I've always wanted to try out Orange Lake, and will get to stay in the West Village this March. My parents did an RCI exchange, and I'm really excited to try the resort out. Glad to see your positive posts. We have a two bedroom for four of us, and this will be a terriffic home base for our Orlando week. Can't wait! It will be my mom and dad (active 74 year olds), me (age 50), and DS (age 15). DH isn't that fond of theme parks, and it's a busy time at work for him so he'll be staying home. My cousin from Tampa may stay with us for a few nights too.

We've stayed at many wonderful timeshare properties in the Orlando area: Sheraton Vistana resort, Cypress Pointe, Cypress Pointe Grand Villas, Polynesian Isles, and Marriott Sabel Palms. And if will be terriffic to try out another highly rated timeshare resort.

For those debating going to the same place again or trying some place new, I say go for the new place. We, though, have stayed at some of the same places several times - just because we knew the place was really nice and could get such a great rental deal from a timeshare owner for a popular week. But I do just love trying out new resorts and haven't been disappointed yet in Orlando.

We stayed at Orange Lake a few years back and had a number of issues with the resort. We will not visit it again.

You would be hard pressed to find any bad reviews about Orange Lake in the past few years. Prior to all of the renovations being completed, I'm sure there were occasional conditions that a few people found fault with...but then again, those reviews were not recent within the past 3 or 4 years.

And, if you read them carefully, you'll find those negative kind of reviews for any timeshare resort, anywhere!

We've stayed in all of the areas at Orange Lake...West, East, North, and River Island.

We personally do not favor staying in the West Village "monopoly houses" style of units, but that is only because of our personal preferences. Since we've become owners at River Island in 2008, we'll continue to annually be spoiled by those accommodations.

The resort itself is one of the crown jewels of Central Florida, with its outstanding location, amenities, staff, and, appearance and condition of the units, buildings, and grounds.

So, for those of you that are already "booked" for a stay there, relax and put your fears to rest. The nay-sayers haven't been there recently. We were last there in September, 2010, and look forward to being there again, in Sept. 2011.

Thanks to a wonderful boss my family and I just stayed in the West Village last week in a 2bd/2ba villa and absolutely loved it! We are die hard Disney property vacationers and were skeptical at first, but it did offer us the opportunity to visit other Central Florida attractions. We are now owners! We liked it that much. It is a short ride up 429 to Disney property and absolutely no traffic! Can't wait to go again!

My DS16 stayed there this past summer with his best friend. My DS said it was a great resort and they had lots for them to do.
We have friends at church who have stayed there twice on their time share and also love it. They have another week booked for this July.

I really liked those "monopoly style" houses, so it really is a matter of opinion. I thought the resort was great overall. We stayed there almost 2 years ago.
