We were at both of these stores today and saw that they both buy books. How much do you get for them? Would I get more than what I sell them for at rummage sales? I usually only sell them for 25¢ or 50¢. Maybe sometimes $1.00 at the most.

Would it be worth it to try Half Price Books or Barnes and Noble? Half Price Books also takes CDs and Computer Software/Games.
Anyone ever done this?
Thanks! :)

I have not used either of those stores, but I have sold books to our local used book store. They usually have a table of prices that you can look at to see how much they will pay you and it is based on the cover price of the book. My local store pays 10% of the cover price for books less than 4 years old and 5 cents for older books.

We sell to Half Price all the time; what you get depends on how new the book is, and how many of that book they have in stock at that store. You may take a whole box in there and walk away with less than $5.00, or you may take a few books in and get lucky with a little bit more.

With what you have to sell, there's really only one way to find out what it's all worth - just take it in. They'll tell you what they'll give you, and you can decline if you don't like the offer.

I've taken books to half price books to sell them, you get next to nothing for them. Last time I took some in I probably took at least a dozen in and got $7 dollars for them. Not a whole lot of money in my oppinion. But atleast I got rid of them, which is what I really wanted to do.

My parents are book dealers and they get 75 cents for some books and hundreds to thousands for others. You can look any book up on half.com, but it takes time.

It won't get you cash money but have you tried paperbackswap.com? I actually learned about it on here and now DH swears by it. Make a list of all of the books you have to offer then you get a point for every book you send out. You can then order any book you want with yo7ur points. Be sure to use media mail for the postage rate much cheaper.

Half price books is routinely glutted with kids books so you get very little for those. Recent adult books bring in more.

The advantage of selling them to Half price books over the internet is that you get cash in your hand that day. You don't have to wait to see if your listings sell. You also avoid the listing, packaging, mailing work. The disadvantage is you might make a better profit if you were willing to sell each one online.

I don't know about those places, but I work at Hastings and we buy back books also. It is all computerized, and if we buy them you will get, usually , from $1.00 on up. New releases can bring in $8 or so. I tend to get an average of $2.00 per book, plus if you get the amount on a gift card instead of cash there is a bonus amount.

That's what I figure, next time we go there I'm going to take some books along and see what they offer me. I figure I'd just decline it if it's not what I wanted.

Anyone ever try selling books to Barnes & Noble? Wonder which would give the better offer Barnes & Noble or Half Price Books? Might try both one of these days just to see if it's worth it.
