Anyone ever skipped an ADR to ride first?

I'm curious to know if anyone's ever booked a pre-opening breakfast only to not show up at the restaurant but rather get in the queue for a popular attraction. True, you'd be charged the cancellation fee. I'm wondering if there is some ride or event that was so valuable to you and/or your family that you'd forfeit $10pp in order to be first in line.

Ex) Having an 8:55am ADR at BOG, walking down Main Street and thinking to yourself...the heck with it...let's just go to 7DMT and be first in line.

Come to think of it...I do have an 8:55am ADR at BOG for a 9am park opening. I'm wondering if I could, in fact, ride the 7DMT at 9am and then run over to BOG at 9:10. What's the window for making my ADR? Think they'll let us in the restaurant at 9:10?

True, I wouldn't do it. But if you're really rich and $10 is like $0.10 to you, then ten cents would definitely be worth the time.

Also, you could probably ride it twice, meaning each ride would be $5, or a nickel ;)

No, I wouldn't book an ADR and skip it. Maybe it is only $10 a person but I would sooner do that then drive down the road and throw $10 out the window for every person in my car.

As far as would they hold it, there is no way to know. They don't have to. And I would think that as popular as BoG is, they wouldn't.

I guess the question is, what time do they let people in for an 8:55am BOG? If they let you in at 8:30am, you could potentially ride it once or twice at 8:40am with the people who are finished at BOG and then make it to your 8:55am ADR.

I just read a report somewhere (I can't find it now) where someone did this exact thing! They had an 8:55 reservation at BOG, got in the gate at about 8:30, took their time walking down main street, taking pictures, and buying some stuff. They ended up just deciding to go ride 7DMT and ended up at BOG by 9:10 where they still let them in (no problems) for their reservation. I feel like there's about a 15 min grace period anyways!! I say, go for it!

Thanks! I think I will try that. The Internet says there's a 15 minute grace period, usually. Worth a shot because it would save a FP.

You can't just walk in before rope drop and get in line for 7DMT. There are CM's holding people at BOG and CM's holding the rope drop crowd.

Your better bet is going to BOG early, perhaps 8:30, ordering coffee, the grey stuff or even 1 kids meal and then doing 7DMT with the early BOG crowd. That way you actually get something for your money AND ride!

As long as you aren't taking super long, I think it would be Ok. Not ideal, but probably OK. Like, don't PLAN to be late, but realize that you may be late. Heck, they are probably used to it, or running late anyway with the dining. We once made it on-time to the Disney Jr lunch, and had to wait nearly an hour because they were so behind. I was a bit on the livid side with that, but it shows you that some places run really, really late. Just don't be extreme. And be prepared for whatever happens, like being charged late or non-show.

Hmm. Thanks, DisneyWishes14. So what I've researched is that with a 9am park opening, as long as you have an ADR before 9am, you can get into the park as early as 7:45am. Does this sound right?

I have an 8:55 ADR. I've seen the pictures of CM's holding ropes out by the BOG restaurant. I would presume they drop those ropes at 9am. I could ride 7DMT and be back to BOG by 9:10 at the latest (15 minute window). What am I missing here?

I'm amazed at anyone who can eat a meal and immediately get on a roller coaster! :crazy2:

I'd have to try to ride 7DMT before breakfast. Or eat at 9am and FP at 10:30. My tummy would need at least 90 minutes. And I'm sure whoever is seated in front of me would appreciate it, too.

If you can get in as early as 7:45am with an 8:55am ADR, just go for 7:45am. Go right to BOG, eat and be out between 8:35am - 8:45am. Usually that's the time when they begin letting BOG eaters enter the Seven Dwarfs line to ride before the rope drop crowd comes.

That was me!! We had an 8:55 at BOG and we had arrived around 8:30, no issue getting in, but we were having so much fun walking and shopping we decided to be late for BOG and just go to 7DMT first then eat. It was totally fine. I asked when we checked in if there was a specific time period for getting there in terms of your ADR time and I was told that there was not. So don't stress. You can either go in super early (we should have been there way before 8:30 then we could have taken our time, ridden the ride and probably still be exactly on time) or just ride first then eat. It is really not a problem.

I should add that I had called Disney Dining at some point to specifically ask if you could be late for BOG and I was told it was no big deal as long as you showed up. They are not "reserving" a table for you specifically. Its just a general idea of how many people will be there during a specific time period.

Playing devil's advocate, what if by some stretch of logic you were to find information that your lunch reservation was running so far behind because somewhere upstream someone else, or several someones, arrived for their reservation just ten or 15 late because they used the opportunity to squeeze in another ride? Now that choice by others directly impacts how much waiting you do and potentially how much touring you can get done.

I'm guessing she probably couldn't get an earlier ADR, hence the 8:55 one.

OP, I'd try it. I doubt they'll turn you away at BOG as long as you're there by 9:15 ish.

Given that it's a QS for lunch, they'd probably just cram you in there anyway. I have a feeling they don't worry so much about people showing up on time for the QS meals.

Hmm, for some reason I thought Disney Jr. lunch was a sitdown. Of course even QS do have limits to capacity, if not why would BOG need ADRs at all?

You can always try. What is the worst that can happen--you would be out $10 a person and still have to pay for food you can actually eat.

Yes. I agree. But if that's the case, just go to BOG and eat early. Then ride the Mine Train, then you can ride whatever you want at 9am cause you've already eaten.
