At the overview of some of the threads and posts on these boards?

A great vacation at Disney can appear sooooo complicated sometimes.

Between the endless worrying about ADR's ..how to get 'free' upgrades at Resorts..how to finagle the dining plan....endless chat about mundane tipping practices..

Oy vey...

Just a vent.

Sorry..:confused3

Not trying to be snarky, but if reading this kind of stuff bothers you, why are you reading a Disney vacation planning board?

Oh I enjoy reading for the most part...planning though IMO is not this OCD'ish.
I can't imagine it being a lot of fun to be so into the tiniest details minute by minute..
Just my thoughts..

Did you see the thread yesterday with the planning binders? My husband and I have done 21 WDW vacations and I've never planned anything or made it to a rope drop. I do not know how I have survived without a binder.

I was looking at those photos of binders and picturing myself carrying that binder, telling my family the order in which we are going to do rides, when we are stopping to trot to a meal, etc.

So, in answer to your question, yes I scratched my head just yesterday.

My family would do away with me if I did that...a vacation should be just that.
:confused3

I know what you mean. It is amazing how overboard a lot of the people go on planning their days to every minute little detail. I also never knew so many people planned their trip around restaurants or had enough room in their bodies for 3 TS meals a day.

The worst though are all the people who expect the things that happen occasionally or are random. "My vacation was ruined because we didn't get a towel animal/free upgrade/special treat with our dinner for our birthday." No, it wasn't.

The majority of posters are just normal people looking for information and recommendations. The over the top planners though sure make for a good read. Even when I took my trip to Italy in 2008 we winged a lot of it and just went with the flow. I don't want to micro-manage anything let alone a vacation.

Totally agree :thumbsup2

I think the over the top planners just love the planning, it's fun for some to go into every detail. It gives you something to do while waiting for the trip time to come.

It is really fun to read some of the OCD planners posts. I remember reading one where a woman was upset that her son drank too much water and kept having to go to the bathroom at times that weren't on the schedule and it threw everything off. She would have hated travelling with me, I must stop and go to the bathroom once an hour with all the water I drink. One of my friends who usually goes with me to Disney makes fun of me because she is convinced that one of my goals on each trip is to visit every bathroom in each park.

I obviously do a little planning, like when we are going, where we are staying and a general idea of what we would like to fit in while there. We do also make some ADRs, but we don't fret if something gets messed up or we want to do something else.

But really, is it that much fun having to plan each day around meals...that much fun booking one type of accomodation and having angst that you might not get another? Constantly trying to 'do the math' on TS/SS/CS meals and how to get the most from each...Having to think about how each day unfolds? Is that a holiday?

It's not to me. I have a loose plan that consists of which park we might go to on each day. Even that is subject to change though. To be fair everyone has their own planning and vacation styles and my style would probably make someone who plans all the details cringe! :scared1:

I am all for planning the basics too..date/resort etc...but I refuse to book more that a couple of ADR's because I don't want to plan my day around them. If we don't get towel animals..quite fine...I hope to get the room I paid for then I am never disappointed. When I do the DDP..I follow the guidelines.
Disney owe me nothing more than I pay for ...and I like nothing more than doing what we want-when we want.

100% agree with you. The first Disney trip with my DS was a disaster because I over-planned. By the end of the trip we were tired and all had attitudes. Ever since then I plan one TS meal and a very loose schedule of the parks. We have much more fun and I could imagine my DH telling me where I could stick a planning binder if I had one :rotfl2:.

But really, is it that much fun having to plan each day around meals...

Well, I generally eat meals whether I'm at WDW or not, so I don't have a problem with it. ;)

For some people, yes, it is. Some people enjoy planning. Some people aren't comfortable spending that much money unless they feel like they're wringing the most possible out of every dollar. Some people have control issues. But as long as they're not trying to plan MY vacation, why would it bother me? Don't assume someone isn't having fun just because you wouldn't enjoy what they're doing.

I joined this board mainly for info and trip reports. I like seeing what others do on their vacations. Especially because we are all going to the same place yet every trip report is different. I like that. I just wish more people used links so I didn't have to scroll through all the comments before hitting day 2!

I wouldn't say I plan my vacation around food but I like to know where I'm eating on vacation.

FireDancer- Why is it hard to believe that people can sit down for 3 TS? It doesn't mean they are cleaning their plates but it's a nice break to be inside AC and chatting about what you have done so far. This is only true though if you don't have every other minute planned. I like having leisurely meals. I like sitting there for a while.

For some people, yes. To each their own.
My "Disney" document on my computer is currently 38 pages-- eventually I'd print it and stick it in a binder, but I am far from the type to plan out the order of rides we'll be doing each day. No way. However, I'm a planner in life-- I hate surprises and love knowing exactly what I am going to be doing each day. I imagine it is people like me (but even more extreme) who take Disney planning to the extreme. It's the way they are IRL, so why wouldn't planning their vacations be that way?

I agree that some people on this board really enjoy planning!

I also think that some of the "over planners" are planning their ONCE IN LIFETIME trip, and they want to make sure they get to see everything, etc. I can see how it would be easy to get sucked into the mentality that if you don't plan, you won't get to see it all!

For those that go more than once a year, yeah all the over planning can seem nutty, but heck, if they are having fun doing it, then who cares! LOL!!

For us who only go once every 3-5 years it's the same feeling. I know I will eventually get to it, so who cares if we didn't this trip.:yay:

I plan food even for me non Disney trips.

I pretty much eat on vacation as I do at home..try not to change it up too much. For me and mine..3 TS daily would be way too much...but I agree-to each his own. Food just isn't the focus for me..

I eat meals too..there or not...what I meant was no dining venue..will govern where I would go that day. I dine where I happen to find myself..sometimes I might have to wait a bit,but never had an issue yet.
