Some of my co-workers have visited Disney with large groups (we're going in August with 10 people) and swear by renting a vacation home near the property.

Has anyone here ever done this? And if so, do you still have any information on the company you rented through?

We're very interested in this option (you can't be athe $$)...but would like to know if anyone else has had experience going this route...Thanks for any help!!

Hi Sarah...you will probably get a lot of responses to this post as there are many options to rent homes around Disney...For 10 people be a careful shopper...Homes are capable legally of housing just so many folks...so you will see "sleeps up to 10" as part of the add...now this means two folks in each double or king and two folks on the pull out couch...so you can sleep 10 comfortably or you can sleep 10 cramped...Also locations vary a great deal and "close to Disney" can be a couple miles or 15 miles depended on how you define "close."....For 10 folks I would look at a 6 or 7 bedroom home...I am not sure of the make up of the group, but this would allow at least two private suites with baths for adults. I would also look for King beds, a large pool, and TVs for all bedrooms as it will be only a small additional cost...be care ful of "extras" like cribs, bar-b-ques, ...I know that Families First has 6 and7 bedroom 4 and 6 bath homes available (www.familiesfirst.com ) as do owners at www.vrbo.com or many other good companies...Great locations will be Formosa Gardens, Emerald Island Resort, Oak Island Cove..all very close to Disney(about 2 miles) off 192 just a few minutes from Disney...other locations farther out on 192 will be good, but not as close as those above...Homes out on HWY 27 are very nice and more like 10 to 15 miles to Disney...so shop around, look for advice here....folks on this site are excellent...Ted

Thanks so much for your reply, Ted!

Some of the homes I've been looking at online are 5 or 6 bedroom houses. That would suit us alright because we're really four couples and then one brother/sister twosome that would be sharing the 5th bedroom. We don't really need a ton of space, we're the type that spend ALL our time, or as much of it as we can, at the parks and not much at the hotel, etc.

I will definitely check out the links that you posted, I'm kind of in the "gathering info" phase right now...

And by "close", I mean "close", lol. We're used to staying on-property, but are only looking at the house option because of the large #'s...2 to 3 miles seems like it would be a good radius, 15 is pushing it, I'm not patient enough to drive that far in the morning!!!

Thanks again! Any other help is appreciated as well!

I just came back from a house in Oak Island Cove and it took about 5 minutes to get to the World every day. It was an awesome house and it only cost about $700 including taxes for eight nights. (Sleeps 8-10 people.) Found it on www.orlandovillas.com - a good "gathering info" site as well.

My parents, sister, and her family were in Orlando a couple weeks ago and rented a house through http://www.vacation-homes-near-disney-world.com and loved it. The house was better than described and they were very pleased with the condition of the home. I asked her if they would rent from them again and they said yes. I don't have any personal experience with any of the rental homes though.

Did she mention what the drive time was?? ;)

Thanks for the reply!

I think it was about 20-30 minutes to the Disney World parking lot. With traffic it would probably be more. I think she was in the Crecent Lakes development.

That's the only thing I'm worried about. That is just further than I am willing to drive, regardless of the price!

Thanks again!

we picked Oak Island Cove for the short drive - it really was about a 5 minute drive, it is just a bit further down 192 from the World. I wouldn't drive much more than that either...

...do you have a link or any further info on the place that you stayed?

thanks!

There are quite a few 5, 6 & 7 bedroom homes within a 10 minute drive of Disney. Those that lay claim to be 5 mins will be in the Formosa area which encompasses Formosa Gardens, Indian Creek, Rolling Hills, Emerald Island, Sunset Lakes and Oak Island.

It is possible to get into Disney along US 192 inside 5 mins but most folks use the Sherbeth Road option which puts you at Animal Kingdom gates within 3 minutes !

Further a field and to the East side of Disney is Cumbrian Lakes and this community has a large number of 5, 6 and 7 bedroom homes.....most side by side ! Cumbrian Lakes is 10 minutes from Disney as are most properties on the East side. The advantage of the east side is easier access to Universal and the main shopping areas.

Hi again, for an example of a home in Emerald Island try www.7bedroomorlando.com ....Might be a little big for you, but lots of space to spread out, and some nice privacy as far as baths are concerned..keep shopping...Emerald Island is definately one of the very closest to the parks...Ted

I've used both Florida Leisure and Premier Vacation Homes to rent vacation homes in the Disney area and was satisfied with both companies.

I've rented from Florida Leisure twice because of more favorable pricing and the ability to preselect the home from the company's website. You can take a virtual tour of all of the company's homes. Depending on the season, you can get a five-bedroom executive home for $149 to $199 per night.

Hi, NHDisneyKid:

I've used Florida Leisure, also, and several of the Elite companies like www.closesttodisney.com. I've loved every experience.

I've stayed at Indian Creek, Indian Ridge Oaks and Rolling Hills and all were about a 5 minute drive to Disney.

PM me if you'd like more info.

Thanks so much for all the replies! Right now I'm trying to sift through all the links everyone posted and look around at the houses...

Robin, I will try to send you a message in the next few days with a couple of questions I have...thanks for your help :)
