I've been looking at some websites on renting either of these. They look fun and like a nice leisure way to get around key West for a few hours or so. Anyone ever do this? If so, where did you get the rental? The electric only go about 25 mph and scooters 35mph.

I'm interested in the electric cars also? Another bump.

Just got back from May 10 Western. We walked for a while down Duvall, which I would suggest because parking will be a struggle along Duvall and you don't want to miss taking in the casual Key West atmosphere. Then we rented an electric car (2 seater) and went to the southern most point, the cemetary, key lime pie shop, the state park, and Hemingway's house. It was a whole lot of fun. We rented for two hours at a rate of $55 I believe. I have no clue what the name was....they are everywhere so renting will not be a problem at all!

Are they near the port? I found a few websites that provide a FREE service where they will bring the cars/scooters and pick them up at the port. I may call them and let you guys know. The cars would be waiting at the time you request I guess.

They are a lot of fun. My husband and I go to KW once a year and always rent scooters. they are easier to park then the electric cars, especially off of Duval Street and on the side roads where some of the lovely galleries are. The prices are about the same everywhere. Although if you want to walk, the Southernost Point has them cheaper than most. If you have a chance to eat there -- go to Michael's --truly fantastic cuisine!! Also, don't forget to stop and Crabby Dick's for a drink and to get out of the heat .. and then there's Hogs Breath ..... I could go on and on, but I'll stop here.

HAVE FUN!!!!

Farms, do you know if it is necessary to book in advance or are there plenty to book once you arrive?

they're PLENTY!! I wouldn't go through the trouble of booking the. You can get them when you disembark -- the shipo docks right by Mallory Square and there are lots of rental places there. That way, even if the weather doesn't cooperate (which is doubtful), you haven't lost any $$$.. Have a blast -- can't wait to hear about it when you get back:jester:

We rented the four passenger (sort of a golf cart) from keywestcruisers.com. It cost us $149 for 3 hrs!! They do not take reservations - you call when the ship lands and they pick you up in a van and take you to the office on Duval St. about a half mile away. Parking of ANYTHING in Key West is a problem. The cart was fine, but i wouldn't do it again - too expensive.
