Anyone ever received a DCL room upgrade while using points?

Do DVC members every receive room upgrades from DCL? Or is the stateroom you pick pretty much always the one you end up staying in? My family and I are cruising in December in connecting rooms. The chances are probably very low for a free upgrade, but just wanting to know if there is hope. Thanks

"Free" upgrades are few and far between. You may hear of those booking "guarantee" categories receiving a room in a higher category when assigned, but otherwise they are very rare. DCL sails almost always with full ships or very near to capacity. That being said, upgrades may occur regardless of whether you booked via DCL, via a travel agent, or via MS (who acts as your travel agent when you book on DVC points).

Best advice is to ALWAYS book a category that you will be happy sailing in.

I agree with Carol that you should book a cabin that will make you happy. Upgrades are far and few between whether you are on cash or using points. But we did get an upgrade from a 6 to a 4 last year on one of the Med cruises. This normally happens when they are having trouble filling a ship. But you need to realize that doesn't happen very often. Most cruises sail near capacity with no problem at all. We have upgraded ourselves at the port before. Of course you have to pay to do that. But it is possible to upgrade at port for cash, even when using points. We did that 3 years ago and upgraded to a cat 3.

never say never. last year we were up~graded on the
members cruise. we were very surprised because the
cruise was full.
