Anyone Ever Put Netflix on Hold?

I put our Netflix subscription on hold this morning. We've been members for 6 or 7 years or so, and have never done that until today. But Saturday we got a call from DirecTV to offer us a promotion, the premier package (includes everything, all the movie channels like HBO and Showtime, etc.) for $3.50 more per month than what we're paying now for the next 5 months.

So, since we have more movies at our disposal to watch now we decided to put our Netflix subscription on hold for the next 3 months. Would have done it for the entire 5 month promotion period, but 3 months is as much as we could go. I'm going to keep up with my queue though, to add new movies to our list so we don't fall behind with new releases.

So, has anyone else ever put Netflix on hold and did you have any problems re-instating it after the hold period was over?

No, have never done this and did not know you could do it.

Why wouldn't you just cancel it? Is there a "joining fee" if you want to go back?

I think about canceling but have not yet.

We used to put it on hold for vacations and at least once we did for a couple of months in the summer when we just did not plan on being inside and watching TV. It was never an issue to restart it at all.

Yes, in fact we are on hold right now! We've just found we've been really busy lately and haven't had time to watch movies...our movies were sitting at home for weeks without being watched so I decided to put in hold for a few weeks, we start back up again Nov. 15.

We did it back in August when we went on a 2 week vacation, and it was no problem getting it started back up again. It was automatic. :)

Ive done it twice, for easy an Netflix will send u an email to
Remind you it is about to start up again. I don't cancel & rejoin because
They keep all my movies in que & I like being able to add to my que
New movies so I don't forget about them later

I don't want to cancel it because I don't want a rate increase from re-joining, and I want to keep my queue so I can keep adding to it. If I cancel it, my queue would disappear.

I'm glad to hear others have had no problems with putting it on hold and then starting back up again.

Ah, so there is a rate increase? What is it?

I might put mine on hold. Or drop it to 1 movies for 9.99.

FYI, I cancelled my Netflix subscription for something like 3 years and when I rejoined, my queue was still the same and it saved all of my settings (plus the price had gone down). I had pretty much by that time seen all of the movies in my queue so it was actually a little silly that they did save it. So if you want to do it for the whole 5 months, just cancel and rejoin...often, you'll get an email with a promo when you want to rejoin anyway. :goodvibes

We do this twice a year (once for fall, when the fall television season gets into full swing; and once for winter, when the winter television season gets into full swing; so far we haven't had occasion to put Netflix on hold for spring). I actually readjust the re-start date several times, refining it based on how much backlog has (or has not) piled up in my TiVo.

I don't know how else we'd remember what movies we'd want to see if we didn't have our Netflix queue available to us all the time, to add things to. We add movies when they come out in the theater (they're almost always already ready to be "Saved" to your Netflix queue), and that generally doesn't only happen when we're active with Netflix.

You should try out criticker.com for making lists of movies to watch. That way, you wouldn't feel like you could never cancel netflix, lest you lose your list.
I like it better because the lists can be arranged a number of ways: by date, alphabetically, and by the predicted score you would rate them.

It's a hidden gem of a website.:cool2:
