A bit off topic but thought someone might be able to help..

Santa is taking our boys to DLP this year (we leave on boxing day) so he will only be getting them a few bits to unwrap (Disney Themed Obviously!). The US Disney store has such a larger range than the UK store and whilst they do ship internationally I'm worried about the import tax and things getting slowed up at customs. Have any of you guys ever ordered from the US store for a UK delivery? How did it go?

Thanks :goodvibes

Yes... and got a very nasty shock when we had to pay what seemed a huge tax when the parcel was delivered. I can't remember the details as it was a while ago but suffice to say, we didn't go down that route again! :(

I've ordered a couple of times in the past, although not for a few years now, you need to factor in import duty and if I remember correctly items take a couple of weeks to arrive, they come via one of the courier companies which is why you'll always be hit for the duty.

I was ordering when the exchange rate was $2 to the £ so I was saving quite a bit of money even allowing for duty but if you want something that's only available on there I think it's worth doing. They have such a superior range, I could do serious damage to a credit card and that's just buying stuff for me, let alone anyone else!

Thanks both for the feedback :) you're right I too could spend a fortune in there just for myself!! I'll have a read up on import tax today and see how much it is likely to be, to be honest I've not even looked at the exchange rate because From just browsing I would be happy to pay even if the exchange rate was 1:1 - the pjs for my youngest were $12 and is happily pay £12 for some over here!

I might just take the plunge...

I agree the range is so much better but I seem to remember that some of what we bought did eventually come over to the UK site. I think we were just shocked that after paying a considerable sum for delivery overseas we still had to pay a huge sum on arrival (we had got rather carried away!). Perhaps we were naive but there was no mention of this extra tax when we filled in delivery details. I tried doing a dummy order just now and couldn't actually get it to go through to payment - just got "There are no shipping modes available for the selected address. Please select another address." Have you tried? If you do go ahead let us know how it went afterwards please. :goodvibes

Here's the link to the charges HMRC will make here, some shipping agents also charge a quite extortionate handling fee (think the Post Office is one of the worst!) so you have to factor this in too.

I found the post office to be the most reasonable, having said that it was a few yrs back they charged £8 when couriers was over £10. Haven't ordered from the US for ages though

Thanks for the link :) that's quite a read!! Okay so I've worked out that the duty should be reasonably minimal as I'm ordering childrens clothes which is VAT exempt anyway and apparently if the total cost is under £135 that helps!? I'm going to study it when the munchkins are in bed and see if the system actually let's you post to the UK. I'll let you know how I get on!

Right so I had a look last night and it will ship to my address - the international charges are a bit more than I was expecting so DH suggested that I waited till after payday and got a few more bits in the same delivery (uh okay then twist my arm!)

So I'll come back to this at the end of the month but I will update the thread when I do for future reference :)

Take a look at JC Penney (jcpenney.com), which carries licensed Disney clothing and products. On the home page of their website, there is an American flag in the upper right-hand corner. Click on it, and it will give you a list of countries they ship to, then click on UK. In addition to the following, they have free standard shipping for orders over GBP 60.

We make it easy to shop from United Kingdom with:
All prices in Pounds sterling
Duties and taxes calculated at checkout
Low international shipping rates
Guaranteed landed costs (no additional charges at delivery)

That's an amazing tip thank you so much :goodvibes I've just gone on to have a look and they have loads!!

I had a look but anything I wanted to order ie frozen bits for dd2 they wouldnt delivery to international address : (

Yeah I came across that issue too :( However - I found some clothes that I could ship to the UK and interestingly on an order with a value of 80 GBP the shipping and taxes were only 20 GBP which is a lot less that I would have imagined. What a shame though that the stuff we actually want won't ship to the UK :(
