Anyone ever heard of Dubailand?

A while ago I seen some amazing artwork on how the themeparks will look Theming was amazing and coaster junkies will love it... At this time I do not know where on the net the pictures are. If I would find them again I will ad the URL

Competition for Disney. Don't think so.

Combine it with a stay at the Burj Al Arab (the best hotel in the world) and you can count me in. Dubai is absolutely beautiful - I have not been but is on my "someday" wish list.

I watched something on the travel channel about this hotel. Just stunning. But incredibly expensive. Its about $6500 for one week standard room.

Thanks for posting the link...it is just such an amazing, interesting place. If I remember correctly the one side of the hotel is canvas. It is just like the sailboat it is designed to look like. Also the fountains in the front are one of a kind fire and water. There are so many more amazing features of this hotel....I could go on and on, but I won't.

Add to all the above the fact that Michael Jackson now calls Dubai home how can anyone not want to go?

It looks like it's that ski resort I've seen on Travel Channel. Looks like it will be other stuff as well. There's just something incredibly hubristic about putting a ski resort in the middle of 110-degree desert.

I saw a similar show on Travel, or some other Discovery-type channel, where Dubai is dredging up millions of tons of sand in the ocean, piling it up next to the shore and adding thousands of acres of new land to their country. They're putting thousands of homes, resorts, malls, etc. on these stretches of land. They're even going to put one, slightly off shore, that will be in the shape of all the continents of the planet. Those lots will fetch a pretty penny, I'm sure.

I guess people can do what they want with their own money, but wow, those people spend prolifically for things that just don't seem as necessary as other things, such as, say, education for the masses.

I saw that show too- I think they said pretty much every celebrity in the world bought a house there- access is going to be so limited, I guess they won't have to fight paparazzi every time they leave the house.

I must say that when I opened this thread, I thought it was a joke about the ports deal. Maybe something about Magical Express overseeing all the ports now...

And can you believe the nerve of AMERICANS?! Instead of channeling all of their extra funds into educating the poor, they spend it frivously at some crazy park dedicated to a giant mouse!
