Anyone ever have the characters autograph t-shirts instead of books?

How did it go over with the characters? How did you make it easy for them to do?

My wife did this last year. She would have the shirts out and she had a piece of cardboard inside of the shirt to give a surface for the characters to sign on. She used the large fabric markers and would have the cardboard under the space she wanted them to sign. The shirts really came out cute and the characters had no problems at all. Alot of people stopped us and told us that they were going to try and do this next time because they had never even thought of it.

We did this in December 2003!! They came out VERY cute, but were a little bit of a pain!!! This year we are doing pillow cases!!! I am getting embroidery (sp?) rings. They may make the process a little easier!! :goodvibes

The fabric didn't bunch up when they tried to sign it? I know when you try to write on fabric, the fabric will kind of bunch and it is a little hard to do. But the characters didn't seem to have any problems, huh? Sounds like a plan! :teeth:

Embroidery rings would probably help with the shirts, too. Why did you think they were a pain?

We've never had the characters sign a shirt before, but our kids did have the them sign a baseball instead of the signature books.

We had the best time with it. Tigger and Eyeore played catch with the kids after signing. It still brings a smile to my face when I think about it!

Not a shirt, exactly, but I have had Mr. Mouse apply his John Hancock to my Geek Vest. Front right shoulder. Have my EPCOT American Mickey pin next to it.

My dear friend took her kids there in December and they used the shirts. They are ADORABLE! We plan to do this for my daughter's penpal in Finland on our trip this week.

We got a white bucket hat from Traget last year $2.99 and had everyone sign it. Worked great. Very easy for the characters to write on. We used sharpie type pens.

WOW!! I would love to have shirts for my kids with the autographs, but with 3 kids shirts it sounds like it would be a pain to keep up with. How did you carry shirts with cardboard in them without it being a lot of trouble? Any suggestions would be appreciated. :rotfl:

Only because it was hard for the characters to write on them without the shirt moving. That's why I am going to use the "rings" this time. (Rings small enough to fit in DDs backpacks!) You're right, they would work well with the shirts, too, but I didn't think of that at the time!! :confused3

Well we did this for my DS last summer and although the shirt is really great, it's hanging on his wall, the characters really do have a hard time with it. The waitress said they will do it but that you have to hold it really tight because they are hard to sign. Now not one of the characters acted like they minded at all, in fact I thought Goofy was writing a novel he wrote so much, but it is difficult to hold the fabirc tight and still. The embrodery rings sound like they might be a good idea.

We bought our son a Micky baseball hat (white) and he got all his autographs on that! It's easier to handle than a shirt (doesn't wrinkle up when they're trying to write) and it's easier to keep for years afterwards! (He's 21 now, and still has it! Doesn't wear it anymore though, LOL)

We did this last April for DD and her cousin. Each of us got in line and had 1 shirt signed. A few suggestions - Make sure you have the shirt folded to where you want the signatures, have more than 1 fabic marker (it may get lost), have a book or piece of cardboard to provide a sturdy surface. One character handler at the MK would only allow "DISNEY" shirts to be signed (ours were ok - they were from the Disney store and still had the tags). The girls were the talk of the MK the day last august they wore their matching signed shirts.

My DD has a white visor that she gets autographed -- it looks cute. We have FAT fabric markers I got from AC Moore back in 1998 and we still use them every trip for the books, hats, backpacks we have had signed.

Shirt signing is quite common! Just be sure the shirt is not being worn while being signed.

a book under the shirt works best, and pull the fabric tight. A clipboard might help too.

WDW lover...I distinctly remember signing a set of baseballs once as Pooh! I also once signed a basketball.

I brought Disney Little Golden Books for the characters to sign.

The characters had so much fun with them!! :hyper:

And they spent a little extra time with us as they each read "their" story.

That is EXACTLY what I am trying to accomplish, but cannot find "the right" books.

WHY would WDW insist on only allowing DISNEY tshirts to get signed? They don't insist on only signing DISNEY autograph books, DISNEY baseballs, etc. Tshirts are our backup plan (if I never find the perfect books, lol). I bought plain tshirts from a regular store, so that ALL that would be on them is the autographs and any designs I try to iron on later.
They won't LET us?
