Anyone ever had an MRI of your wrist?

My son broke a tiny little bone just below his thumb back in 2001.
It had to be set perfect or he would have had lifelong pain is what the Orthopedic told us.
So after he set it and cast his arm he ordered an MRI to be sure the bone was set correctly.
He was put all the way into the tube. He was only 10 and he did so good. He was so apprehensive before the test. But once he was in I stood next to him and they gave him headphones with music. Lasted about 20-25 minutes.

That's what I figured. Maybe this time I can use the plus size one even though I've lost weight, LOL!

I did see a cool open one online where you sit in a chair, the sides close up kind of like a sideways clam shell, and your wrist goes in a circle thing that looks like one of those Dyson fans. Wonder if Raleigh Orthopedic has one of those???? :rotfl2:

When I had mine done, I had to lay "superman" style-on my stomach with my arm in front of me. They put the box on and I was in just far enough that I could still read the numbers on the front of the scanner.

I believe there are open MRI's as well. Maybe that can be an option.

Good Luck to you.

I don't know if that'd be any better or not. I hate laying on my stomach for any amount of time unless I cna put soem pillows under my stomach (hurts my back w/o the pillows).

How long did you have to lie there?

I had an MRI on my hand. It was done in an open MRI machine. I had a knee MRI the same way. Much better for me than the tube! I laid on my back and the machine only went over my hand. I could see out. I just laid there listening to the radio that was playing.

My 16 yr old son had this done just 2 weeks ago. He fractured his scaphoid in his wrist. He had to go into the MRI machine superman style, on stomach with his one arm sticking out. He said it took the woman over 10 minutes to figure out how to make him "comfortable." His wrist was up on a padded box and locked in somehow. He's super skinny and said there wasn't enough padding on the bed part and his ribs were hurting. His shoulder muscles started quivering by themselves so the scans were coming out blurry.

Overall, he was in the machine for almost an hour. The scans themselves take very short amount of time and they'll talk to you in between. She did repeat one scan that came out super blurry. The rest she said were "okay."

He walked out and said to me that they better be good enough because he'll never ever do that again. :rotfl:
