Anyone Ever Fly out of Gary Indiana Airport (GYY)

Have you ever flown out of Gary Indiana Airport? Is it safe to leave the car there for a week? What did you think of flying out of there? Would you use this airport again? Ever flown Allegiant? TIA

I am thinking about flying Allegiant out of Gary Indiana. Anybody ever use this airport?? How about the poster, did you end up flying out of here? Anyone know the area? Thanks for any help!!

If your destination is Walt Disney World, keep in mind that Allegiant Air flies into Orlando-Sanford Airport (north of Orlando), not Orlando International Airport.

Also, I can't say I'm impressed that Allegiant Air only operates two flights per week.

There is no Disney's Magical Express service at Sanford.

Car services (limos and towncars) charge significantly more from Sanford to WDW.

However, if the limited schedule woks for you and if you plan to rent a car anyway, it's not a big deal. The drive to WDW is twice as far and takes about an hour instead of a half hour. However, because Sanford is a smaller airport, you'll recover some of that time.

We're flying out of Gary in August. We gained a day since the flights are significantly cheaper and we'll do Thurs/Thurs. I haven't book our rental yet, but the lowest I've found for a week was $140 for economy car. I've read that the parking is under 24 hr surveillance. The first thing out of my husband's mouth was "we are not leaving our car in Gary!" I think it would be fine though.

I'm so glad to see a thread about this airport! We are thinking of booking 8/16-8/23. The price is excellent, but I am just not sure about the airport. Hmmm.... I guess I better decide soon!

I decided to book our flight out of Gary. We are renting a car, so I'm O.K. With the Sanford airport. Cannot wait for August!
