Anyone ever driven from the northeast to WDW then HHI?

We have made those several times. Our best times are ;

Pittsburgh to Orlando - 15.5 hours

Pittsburgh to Hilton Head - 10.5 hours

Hilton Head to Orlando - 4 hours

We flew down in May last year and drove back to Maine. We went from VWL to VB to HH to Maine. Yes, HH was about 6hrs. from WDW (longer from VB). The drive from HH to Maine was 22 hrs. so from CT it should be 5-6 hrs. less. We took (I'll reverse since most will be headed south) 84;81;77;26;95. It was 130 miles longer than 95 and the roads were unbelievable compared to 95 There were no beltways, no "which way do we go?", the roads were as well maintained as 95, lots of rest areas, nice towns to stop and get gas, food, etc.; less traffic, and very scenic. Well worth an extra 2 hours of driving. In fact the biggest, scariest city of all was Jacksonville, fl. if that gives you an idea. The only problem with the above route in the winter months is in the mountains(Blue Ridge, Pocanos, etc.) there can be a lot of fog that makes driving dangerous so be well informed and careful.

Forgot to mention that we were at VWL on 9/11 and drove back 25 1/2 hours straight the whole way on 95 to Maine. It was the WORST experience ever. I know the situation made it that way since there were 10 times as many people driving since all flights were grounded, compounded by the panic and fear, but even on a good day I'd still rather take the other route. JMHO.
