Anyone ever drive to Disney from NJ w/o stopping?

I rode the autotrain when I was a kid. However, its much much more expensive than flying or driving, plus we would have to drive to VA anyway just to pick up the train. I dont see the advantage to it to be perfectly honest, but thanks for chiming in ..!

We will be making the drive to Disney from NJ in early January, just myself and DW. We have always flown before.

My understanding is that it approx a 18-20hour drive, not incl meal stops, etc. Anyone ever do this w/o stopping overnight in a city in between?

I suppose the best thing to do would be drive to the South Carolina/Georgia border (14 hours?) ... stay the night, and continue to Disney the next day (5 hour drive?) so that its not a totally "killer" drive.

What do other NJ-ites do? Do you stopover for the night somewhere when making the trip via car, if so where do you stopover?

made this trip two yrs ago with 3 kids. way down stopped only for gas and bathroom . 17 hrs. longest drive ever .. way back , stopped cheap motel ,rested for 6 hrs. .best thing we ever did .

Just wanted to say thanks to the op and all the posters who responded. We are leaving from south Jersey (Millville area) on Thanksgiving Day. We plan on stopping in Pooler GA for the night. It will be me, DH and our three kids 13,10 and 7. They are really good about riding in the truck - we've always taking them on day trips, I did however purchase a portable DVD player with 2 screens. That should help ease the ride. I'm also making them chose the DVDs to be watched now - that way we won't have any fights while driving. I just have to remember to pick up three sets of headphones!!! They love Newsies...and while I love it too I just can't stand to hear it over and over...

We've made teh trip about a dozen times in the past 18 months. It all depends on if it's a holiday, what the weather might eb, and what time we are leaving.

We've found the best way to go is to leave at 3:00 or 4:00 am on a Saturday morning if we want to drive straight through. We usually take a 20 minute nap in Southern VA or Northern NC, and then often another as we are entering FL. We don't like the safety of the rest areas in SC and GA for napping there.

It's not too bad if you have two drivers who have done a lot of distance driving. But if you normally drive to work and the mall, and have to switch drivers to make it the two hours to the shore, you will not make it in one shot to FL without serious risk.

My DH still makes the drive R/T every month, and does it alone. About 25% of the time he'll get a room, but he usually prefers to leave in the wee hours of the morning and arrive in the late evening.
