Has anyone ever delivered phone books for the phone company? There was some info in this monthes bill with info to fill out if interested. Since I stay home, I thought this might be a good way to make a little extra cash for our Oct. WDW trip. Have any of you done this? How do they pay? per hour? per delivery? do they cover gas? Minimum wage? What info do you have. Thanks.

I did this years ago and hated it. They paid a set amount based on the route given. Each route had a different pay that must have been based on the the amount of homes or the distances between houses etc. I dont think it was worth it to me.

My father did that years ago and it wasn't worth it. He hardly got enough money for gas and the cough syrup for the cold he caught while delivering those phone books in the freezing rain.

the only way it is worth it is if you deliver to businesses doing bulk drops. You get a flat rate per drop. those flat rates really add up. I did it for three years. Bulk drops are the only way to go. Most people don't know to ask for those routes. I did it for about 3 years in a row. I made about 250 for a weeks worth of work. If you don't get bulk drops don't bother, IMO

We did this years age when I was a kid (30 yrs at least) We got like .10 a book or something....we had a blast. My mom and her friend did it together and took us girls along to run them, we sat on the back of the station wagon and rode to the address and they would yell how many to take to each house........memories! I remember it was always cold when we did it. Doubt that it was too much aof a money maker though. I hear delivering newspapers pays fair if you want a 2 hour job 7 days a week.

try mystery shopping if you would like to know more send me a private msg

I've done this too. It was terrible. I delivered approx 150 books and only made $100.00. It took ALL week. It was just awful.

I did this as a teenager and it wasn't too bad. The only problem I had was that my route had some very rural territory. We had snow and I thought one of the roads was never going to melt enough for me to get the books delivered.

KristiKelly,

I think it depends on the the company as to what you will be paid. I've seen companies that pay per book and per hour. And as Kimberlyfamilyfv said, commercial business routes are probably the best. Some companies may allow you to hang the book in a plastic bag which saves time and makes delivery easier. If you are still thinking about giving it a try, you might want to ask them about delivering late books for those who didn't receive theirs. They will usually pay a premium for these deliveries.

Hope this helps. :earsgirl:

I'd like to know more on the mystery shopping if you wouldn't mind sharing? I too stay at home because of my Lupus. I could use the extra money for our trips to WDW. Thanks!
