We are thinking about going over our anniversary to WL. We have booked a standard room. We did let let it slip that we were celebrating.  Has anyone been given an upgrade at WL? We will be checking in on July 26th.(Sat.) Thanks for your help. Also can anyone tell me about what the cost would be to urgrade from a standard to concierge at checkin?

We will be celebrating our 10th anniversary during our August trip. DW is a teacher and the only time we can go is during August. (Our actual anniversary is September. )

As you can see below, we have gone EVERY year in August and thats how we celebrate our anniversary. We have told them EVERY year what we are celebrating and the most we have ever gotten was a signed picture of the Mouse wishing us a " Happy Anniversary":

Don;t expect too much. BUT if any of you have suggestions , me and Adisneynut would love to hear them.

Thanks

You are setting yourself up for dissapointment - if you want to enjoy a concierge room for your anniversary (which would be a huge treat) then book it.
The WL is a wonderful resort and even if you stay in a standard room you will have a magical anniversary vacation! Have fun! :)

We went in Oct. to WL and were upgraded from standard view to courtyard view and for no occassion at all:D Over our many trips to WDW (and we didn't always live in FL) we have been upgraded a few different times and I've found that every time we did receive an upgrade, it was when we hadn't asked for one and were pleasantly surprised by it!;)

I don't know what they would charge at check-in to upgrade but from my experience they seem to do it more when I'm not looking for it -- as many will tell you on these boards, if you don't expect it, you won't be dissappointed. That being said, I think they tend to upgrade without asking when they seem to have an excess of the nicer view rooms available because the hotel is not as busy (although the upgrades we have received have been on standard view to courtyard for example, not as much as to conceirge). Just my guess though.

Best of luck and happy anniversary!

Thanks for your help. We have made a few PS and I did get CRT for breakfast on our anni. date. Also have Ohanna's for the day before which is my BD so I guess will will save the extra $$ for dining and stay in our standard view room. We have had concierge brfore at AKL and they gave us a 2 bedroom suite last x-mas. I called down to the desk and asked if they were sure we were in the right room. I even had them doubble check. Needless to say we were thrilled that we saved AKL for our down time after the parks.

If we get and coutyard view them I will be thankful if not I wil make the best of it.

Don't set yourself up for disappointment. Magic happens, but not when we try to plan it in. We just returned from our Anniversary and not even one happy anniversary. No biggie, we didn't have any expectations and really it's our Anniversary, just like the rest of our marriage it is what we make it. Would something have been nice sure, but it didn't take the magic out of being at WDW without kids for our special day.

Adisneynut,
We are checking in to WL on July 26 as well celebrating our 9th anniversary. Maybe we will run into each other. When is your anniversary? Ours is July 30. Last year we were upgraded from standard to courtyard, hoping for that this year but as another poster stated, any room should be fine with us. We just love the WL.

BTW, I will have my lime green Mickey badge on.

Our is on July the 28th. The 27th is my 40th BD. I guess maybe it will less painful if I am at the world.;)

We have been 3-4 times every year for the past ten years and have never received an upgrade at any of the resorts.

We've never received any of our requests either, except for a non-smoking room. Then again, I don't fax or phone or any of the other things people do. I just state my requests when I book.

We did receive a cake on our 25th anniversary, though. That was nice.

My best advice in this case is to book what you really want. That way you won't be disappointed.

We were there for our honeymoon 10 years ago and then there for our 5 year anniversary. Never even a "congratulations" was uttered our way and it was in both reservations that we were celebrating special occasions.

We still had a good time but we've never experienced the "magic" that the folks on this board post about--shoot, we haven't even had any towel animals decorate our room! Maybe this Sept will be the trip that we get to see those elusive towel critters that I have only seen in pictures!

Have a great time and HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!

We were surprised with a free upgrade from standard to concierge at the YC, but it wasn't our anniversary. It was a very pleasant surprise and definitely spoiled us too!

I suspect a significant number of guests are celebrating something. Trip is close to an anniversary, birthday of one of the family, egagement etc. Some people may even lie. In other words upgrades are really as much a question of availability and mood of the person assigning rooms than anything else.

My experience is small upgrades (standard view to water view of quiet pool) are somewhat common but people expecting that an anniversary trip will get a free upgrade from POLY GV to concierge LV are setting themself up for a MAJOR disappointment.

That is a busy time of year and checking in on a Saturday I doubt you will see an upgrade.

We were lucky enough to be upgraded at the GF from std to lagoon view - with a fabulous view of the castle and fireworks. There was also a signed "Happy Anniversary" photo from Cinderella waiting for us at check-in. We booked thru a travel agent who does a lot of Disney biz, and she let them know it was our anniversary and I also faxed 3 days prior to check-in. It was in March, tho, not terribly busy, so that could have something to do with it also. Just book what you can afford, anywhere you stay at WDW will be great, and have a fabulous anniversary trip!

DW and I were booked at BWV (through CRO, not DVC members). A few days before we left I called the desk at the BWV to make sure that our anniversary was noted on the reservation, and that anything they could do to help me surprise my wife would be great. BTW, we had booked standard view studio. They said I could contact CRO to inquire about upgrades, but would note the occasion and I was welcome to ask at check-in.

At check-in the CM welcomed us to the BWV and looked up our ressie. I did not ask, as I didn't feel comfortable doing it in person I guess. The CM then wished us a happy anniversary trip and informed me that we would be staying in a preferred view 1br suite! That jacuzzi was nice...but you know what we really liked...the WASHER & DRYER!! LOL

I think I read somewhere that cash customers will always get upgraded first at DVC properties. Something about not wanting to get complaints about some members being treated better than others. An upgrade from studio to 1 bedroom is a very nice upgrade.

On my first stay at the BWV(renting points)I was upgraded from a preferred view studio to a 1 bedroom preferred view. The lady I rented from was surprised as it's never happened to her and she's the DVC member. Of course, I went during early February when there was still renovations going on, occupancy was low and I think the CM was being nice as he knew there were 2 teen boys staying with us. I'm so spoiled now, there's no way I could ever stay at the All Stars for more than a nite or two anymore!

I thought I was the only person who does laundry at the World.

I was not expecting an upgrade from standard to concierge. I have read where some have choosen to upgrade to concierge at WL when they check in for about $60.00 per night. When I called and asked what the rate was is was alot more than that. I will be happy with my standard view room and spend money on a few great meals.
