Ok, maybe it is a wierd question. Yet I was wondering...after looking at the menu for Spoodles...the appetizers look great. The entrees? Ehh. So I was curious. Do you think I would be able to get 2 appetizers in place of an entree (3 appetizers in all) on the DP?

2 appetizers instead of 1 entree? Not likely. It has nothing to do with the $$ value of the 2 appetizers, which would still likely be less than the cost of 1 entree. The problem is the computer probably can't accomodate such a request.

Now 1 appetizer instead of the entree, maybe. But I wouldn't count on it.

(BTW, we've been to Spoodles twice and I think your assessment is accurate. IMHO, the appetizers are terrific but the entrees are only so-so.)

Consider an entree sized portion of an appetizer. Also they may have a knock your socks off special that night too.

Does Spoodles offer "nightly specials?"

I do not recall seeing anything listed as a nightly special when we dined there Saturday evening. It appeared to be their standard menu. And I don't recall the server stating anything off the menu. However hse did tell us all meals were prepared to the guest's specifications. So if you had any issues with the food selection I am sure you could order something similar to what they offer. :confused3

Although I haven't tried it, the woman at the next table at Coral Reef last fall tried to get a second appetizer in place of her entree. Although she tried to insist that this would be financially advantageous to Disney, and that she just wasn't hungry enough for an appetizer and an entree, surprisingly, her server wouldn't let her do it. The DDP rules seem to be VERY strict, as I saw several examples of following rules to the letter, when the requested "bending" was lower cost.

Some appetizers are loss-leaders: they represent a very substantial amount of preparation work, and labor is much much more expensive than food ingredients. The prices on the menu often don't fully reflect how much cost is associated with some appetizers. So it isn't necessarily even a Dining Plan thing, though they wouldn't be allowed to deny you a second appetizer if you were paying cash for it.

Lynn, one member of our family was able to order a second appetizer as her entree at Spoodles. This was a couple of trips ago though. She ordered the shrimp and received a large entree size portion.

I think in the end it depends on your server and probably to some degree the management of the restaurant. Coral Reef appears to be especially rigid on the DDP.

I can think of several restaurants where I would prefer to have an appetizer as my entree...I might have to give this a shot in August!
