Every one has to make their own decisions based on what is best for their family, so good luck deciding.
I will say that we have visited this time every year since 1999, including 2 major hurricanes....and I would do it again, in fact we will be back this summer from 8/30 - 9/5, we simply plan our days to best suit the current weather, we hit the parks very early, head back to the resort for the afternoon to cool off/rest and head back out late afternoon for some evening
stuff.
Enjoy;)

Yes, it is HOT and humid and there is risk of a hurricane but it's also quite doable.

Pros: free dining, MNSSHP, hot for swimming, low crowds.
Cons: HOT, HUMID, Hurricane season.

If you decde to do it, just plan for the heat. Go to the parks early and leave before it gets to hot. Go and have a nice lunch or swim or nap and then head to a park in the late afternoon once it's cooled off.

Drink lots of water. Sunscreen.

Take lots of breaks in the A/C stores.

We found bringing a couple face cloths from the resort each day very refreshing. We'd wet it with a water fountain or sink and my girls would put it on their head or neck.

Buy a water mist fan!

If you have a fridge, freeze some water to bring to the parks the next day.

I was always afraid to go in Aug/Sept but now we love it. Yes, it's hot but you do get used to it and it is doable.

Good luck!

We'll have two toddlers and a couple of our kids have asthma. We decided to jump on the free dining offer and hope for the best. Our plan is to hit the parks early in the day, come back to the resort for a swim and cool off time and than go back to the parks in the evening. We're hoping that doing it this way we will keep the kids a little cooler, happier and healthy:wizard: .

Hey Dana,
Girl you're from Joisey too, it gets hot here during the summer. Take the same precautions. I do find the sun is a little more intense than in the garden state.
1) Chill out during the hottest part of the day. stay onsite and head back to your resort for the mid afternoon.
2) After every major ride we chill out in an air conditioned venue. For example when at MK, after we do space mountain or the tea cups. We head over to the hall of presidents for some nice air condition sit down entertainment.
3) No "Rambo" park touring. One year we went we the grand parents who had respiratory issues. After every ride, we made it a point to sit down for a few minutes. We used the premise of looking at our park maps. Sure we some times didn't get very far but no one got burnt out.
4) If you're going for the free dining, make you TS lunch. This way you guys sit down during the really hot part of the day and relax in air.

hope this helps

true,true..but i tend to hide indoors or go to the mall or something..:car:

We went the end of Aug last year and it was HOT we are very used to humidity in Indiana so that didn't phase me. I think I will plan on being outdoors a little more this summer to get used to it for our upcoming Sept. trip. (Yes we are going back so it can't have been that bad! lol) We even had a tropical storm go through and it really was no big deal. Just stayed in a little bit more that night.

Another Jersey girl here!

I've been to WDW during August (twice) and September (twice) and both are hot. But it was doable. We drank tons of water and wore lots of sunscreen. Also, the kids often stopped at the misting spots. We also had mister fans and the neck coolers which helped.

Very hot and very humid! DS is severely asthmatic and we just can't travel to Disney at all during the summer months (for us that includes May through September). The earliest we can go with him in tow is October and even then, early on the temperature change is a killer for him.

Just be prepared...bring all their meds, inhalers, nebulizers, steroids, etc. Visit your doctor and tell him your concerns, he may start them on a preventative daily therapy. DS has a turbohaler he takes every day even when he isn't having a problem. Not sure if yours are able to do inhalers yet though since they are toddlers. Still, it doesn't hurt to ask the doctor. Also try to avoid from bringing them from one temperature extreme to another (heat and humidity from outside to the cold air conditioning of the shops). That will get to an asthmatic just as fast as the humidity will. I think if your willing to make some concessions on your touring and possibly just go at a slower pace, September is doable. :upsidedow

I would definitely bring their meds just in case you need them.

Staying onsite where you can go back to the hotel after lunch for nap/cooling off will definitely help.

Also, don't forget you can get free ice water in cups at CS restaurants (we just did this last week)...we brought sports bottles with us and poured the water into those so it was easy to carry around with us.

We also used the little misting fans you can find at WalMart. They are called O2Cool, I think. We wore them and used them throughout the day to help cool us off.

Have fun, and just remember not to rush around in the heat...take it at an easy pace and you'll enjoy your vacation.
