I will be "on call" over the holiday weekend. Hope no one falls and breaks any bones.

Not working ,but dad is..hes a fireman and said the same thing--they are going to have some good food :)
I think hes working xmas eve day and xmas day...Ill probably go to the firehouse during the day on christmas to see the guys for a bit...im sure they will be cooking like crazy!

As volunteer firefighters my whole family is "on call" every holiday

hope it is a Quite day for everyone :wizard:

Thank goodenss for the people like you who work the holidays so we can remain safe. :flower:

Now......... what is an ice box cake and are you willing to share the recipe??

I'll be working too! I work every holiday, weather it is my schedule day off or not. We work our Sunday schedules on the holiday, so I will be working the day shift, which isn't to bad. I am usually off Wed. and Thurs. so if the holiday falls on wed. or Thurs. I have to work 6 days that week. This year Christmas and New years work out better for me, because they are on Sunday so they are celebrated on Monday. I will be working my regular schedule on the actual holiday and then work the day shift on Monday too. I usually work from 10pm-6:30am on Mondays so this is much better! Have a great Christmas at the firehouse!

hi,
sure,it's pretty easy to make, make 5 cups choclate pudding, 1-2 boxes grahm crackers(the large ones) 1 big empty deep tray.
bottom layer thin layer pudding,1 layer cracker,1 more layer pudding, then grahm cracker. repeat until you have around 7-8 layers.place in frdige for 2-5 hours. remove, top with whipped cream and eat.USE EXTREME CAUTION VERY ADDICTING :teeth:

I don't, my DH works midnight shift Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, NY Eve and NY Day....at least someone traded shifts with him, he was scheduled 4p-12a on Christmas Eve (when we celebrate with my family) and 8a-4p on Christmas Day.....that would be hard, as our kids are 5 and 2 and they wouldn't know what to do without daddy.

Yep, working 3 to 11 on Christmas Eve. I get off work, go to midnight mass and then am up early to watch the kids rip through their gifts. :)

This year, our holiday schedule borders on the ridiculous. Our office is closed on Dec.26, and I am on call that day and Dec. 27. Of course, all the other doctors are still going to be out of the office on Tues, so, I expect I will be "killed" with work. But, the weekend is what gets me. One doctor is on call Friday and Saturday, and different one on Sunday, because the one doesn't want to be on call both the weekend and the holiday. Man, some people are picky.

We just found out that DH's train yard is not shutting down so he may have to go in. My dad will be at the fire station for Christmas Eve. They do 24 on 48 off. My sister is a flight attendant and she has long days on both Christmas Eve and Day.

When you're sitting at home on Christmas Eve enjoying the football game, my DS is one of the many support staffers who will be there working. He's still not sure if he needs to go in on Christmas day. :confused3

I am working xmas eve and new years day.
My partner and I alternate holidays.

Yup, 24 hours shift on Christmas day. But, since I don't celebrate Christmas, I like this shift. It lets someone who celebrates stay home. And there's not much to do on Christmas otherwise!

Rachel

p.s. I always get a kick out of the fact that most of the folks in the hospital on Christmas are Jewish or Muslim. Even 'Santa' is Jewish. ;)

I will be working christmas day. I work for the airlines and since we are operating 24/7... if your regular skd day falls on a holiday you get stuck working it. I think this year was my first thanksgiving I had off since 1999.
I haven't had easter, xmas or 4th of july off in years..

I have to work Christma Eve, but I'm off Christmas Day. I traded with another co-worker, I worked her Thanksgiving and she'll work my Christmas Day!

Nope. Our office closes at 12:30 pm on 12/23 and doesn't open again until 7:30 am on 12/27. We will be closed again at 12:30 pm on 12/30 until 7:30 am on 1/3. During the Christmas/New Years holiday our office is always closed for 3 total days.

Now when I was growing up, my mom was a flight attendant for United and was either flying Christmas morning and got back in the evening and we opened our gifts then or she was flying Christmas night and we opened them like we normally do in the morning before she left.

My father worked for the government in a 24/7 area and I remember him working most Christmas Eve's, Christmas Day and New Years Day as well. The only time it bother us kids was when he worked midnights (m-8am) because we had to wait for him to get home to open our presents. As we got older we hated the day shift worse (8-4) because we had to either open the presents before he left (and he left by 7:30) or we waited until he got home. Either way, early rising or late opening, we saw it as punishment to us.

It was jsut something we expected but now that I am older I appreciate those that do give up the holidays to make services and protection of our freedoms available to us on those days. Thank you.

Yep, DH & I are both working 12 hours shifts on Chrsitmas & Christmas eve. We will celebrate Christmas this Friday. :)
