Anyone else use cloth diapers on vacation?

Got a question for you: What do you do to get your diapers to your destination when flying???

We have never run into this before. The last time we went to WDW when my older DS was still in diapers, you could check bags, without a fee, at the airport. We haven't flown with a kiddo in diapers since the airlines have started charging for checked bags. So, this time we are trying to minimize our packing a bit. I have thought about sending a stash down to our resort ahead of time and then sending them back (has to be cheaper than checking another bag, round trip), or taking as many as we can get in a carry on and then having to do laundry a bit more often (not a huge deal).

What do other CDing families do? (Disposables are not an option - DS gets horrible diaper rash/open sores from the sodium polyacrylate- the stuff that turns into that "gel".)

Your best bet would be prefolds or flats and wash down there. They are lighter and easier then anything else. You can wash and dry covers in the room.

We use the BumGenius 3.0 One Size. Buying anything new for the trip isn't an option- just trying to find the best way to get them down there. Thanks though.

We have just split them between the two suitcases and hoped really hard they wouldn't be lost. They weren't. Whew. But we were just going to my brother's...could have easily ordered some more quickly or even found a place in his city (San Diego) to buy more if they were entirely lost

But I think if we were going to WDW I would pack as many as I could into a carryon, perhaps even spacebagging them, and not risk their being lost or delayed by DME.

What airline are you taking? There are some out there still that don't charge for the first checked bag.

Oh, and we always took half the "stash" and just washed. But again, that was at my brother's, not WDW. I think at WDW (or DLR on a longer stay) unless I were staying at a DVC place with a w/d, I would probably bring it all.

We had one diaper pail bag that did really well at keeping moisture in, and w would put the cleans in one bag and the dirties in the really good one, and then at the end of the trip (like a 3 day trip to BC where we took the train) double "wetbag" the dirties, put 'em in the suitcase, and go. But flying, oh I pity the TSA person who might randomly go through that checked bag! :) And I would check dirties rather than carry them on...

Disposables were an absolute NO for us, too. Glad to meet another!

Good idea on the Space Bag- how would I vaccuum the air out to bring back home though???

We are taking NWA, and because of when we booked, we get our first checked bag @ no charge. But, DS1 doesn't get a bag because he is a "lap baby". (Looking forward to seeing how much "lap sitting" he does on the flight. :lmao: Dreading this part of the trip.)

I will probably bring a big hunk of our stash (we have a TON). I plan on just putting dirties in the XXL Ziploc bags, we have done that in the past, and it works just fine. We probably won't have to pack to many dirties- our outbound flight isn't until 8 pm, so we will probably just run a load that day before leaving. And any dirties we do have would be in the wetbag we are carrying in the diaper bag for the day. We have traveled a lot since being parents, so the logistics of CDing while traveling are pretty well worked out for us---- just this whole obnoxious checked bag fee is throwing a wrench into things. LOL.

I guess I should look at the measurements of what is allowed for a carry-on, and trial run packing to see how many I can get in there.

There are roll-up space bags and knockoffs. Or you could beg a mousekeeping person for use of the vacuum...imagining that conversation...lol :)

Good luck!!!
