I don't mean to sound like a sour-puss, but I'm done with it. I mean, it was nice at first and all, but at this point, I just wanna go to Disney World, see the castle the way it should be, and not have this 50th anniversary thing shoved in my face anymore.

I've been there twice since the celebration started, and will be back in about a month. It's just feeling more and more commercial to me by the day for some reason.

Everything is commercial, whether it be Disney, Universal, Six Flags, Paramount, etc. The whole (!) point of each of these companies is to make profit for their owners. While there are companies that exist for purposes in addition to, or instead of, selling their products and services, there are very few such companies, and none are the companies that operate the major theme park.

What Disney has learned (and the other companies, I bet, are trying to figure out how to copy) is that, right now, guests want to feel that when they visit, it is an "especially special" time to visit. Few guests specifically want to visit when things aren't "special". And guests seem very willing to overlook the fact that Disney has celebration-after-celebration, with only minor breaks in-between. They're as willing to suspend their disbelief with regard to that, as readily as they're willing to suspend their disbelief to enjoy the theme park rides to their fullest.

For the foreseeable future, I doubt we'll see a full year go by at WDW that is not part of some "celebration".

That sounds about right. Maybe that's my problem. I've been so many times, and every time I'm there, it seems there's SOME sort of celebration going on. After so many, it just takes away the meaning of the current celebration.

First I went in 1986, it was the 15 year celebration.

I was there for the 25th, when they destroyed the castle.

I was there in 2000, when they put the goofy sign up next to Spaceship Earth.

There is no question that going to WDW requires a certain amount of suspension of disbelief, in order to have best possible experience. I know that after repeated visits, that sometimes becomes difficult. We recently took two years off, to recharge our WDW batteries.

That suspension of disbelief is what I love so much. I think we're it starts to get to me is last year for example, with the begnning of the celebration. We were there, purely by coinidental planning. Epcot closing one day early, MGM closing one day early, all the tents set up around the Magic Kingdom. That's what takes away the suspension for me. I know it's all business, and that's fine. I guess the only real answer is, to avoid those periods.

Though some of that could happen at any time, during the off-season, specifically the closing of D-MGM early on any one day. D-MGM is a favorite for companies and trade associations sponsoring big conventions in the Orlando area. It is the most cost-effective park to rent for an evening, and has lots of different types of attractions to please all kinds of folks.
