Anyone else think MGM needs more?

DH and I just got back from 5 days during Presidents Day week.

We are frequent visitors to WDW and are faithful to the Disney co. because we belive the products and services they provide are top rate. That is also why we stay on-site and also DVC, AP holders, DC members and may move to Celebration at some point!

HOWEVER, I can't help but feel like MGM is lacking in some areas. I haven't been to universal in many years (I think '95 was the last time), but I remember the street sets (vs. New York Street) to be WAY superior. I feel like NY street is just a "pass through" and Disney missed an opportunity to have some great pubs or delis or SOMETHING there. I DO LOVE the way Disney in general doesn't just throw up a monster rollercoaster in the middle of the park...this is one of the things (there are many) that distinguishes them from other theme parks. But RR and ToT are not enough!! I think MGM needs more attractions and thrill rides based on the movies...kinda like Universal did with Spiderman, E.T., Jaws, King Kong etc. Yes, I know there is Star Wars and shows like Indiana and Beauty and the Beast and such (we also love Ariel's show)...which are great...but...

What do you think? Am I just being a brat...or do some of you feel similarly?

I definitely agree. When I went to Universal in Hollywood, I got the feeling while there that movies and shows actually were filmed there, that it was an amusement park but also actually studios. I did not get that feeling at MGM at all. Personally I'd really like a "monster rollercoaster" but I agree that having movie-themed rides would be amazing. The kids on the trip with me thought of a great Monsters Inc ride. And I'm sure others could be done as well!

I just posted my trip reports from our 02/07 to 02/15 stay and saw your comments on MGM. I think MGM was the favorite park of DH and both DS, and I really enjoyed it. We went to Universal/IOA on 02/11 and 02/12, and yes MGM is not as detailed, but you still feel that Disney magic that Universal is lacking. I think there could be more rides, but I wouldn't want them put there just because, if you know what I mean. I would want a ride with a lot of thought put into it, otherwise it woudn't be Disney. We still had a full day at MGM, rode some rides many, many times because they were so much fun, and went back one afternoon and one morning just because we enjoyed MGM so much. I really couldn't compare Universal and MGM, they both have their highlights and make for a wonderful vacation.

Texan,

I absolutely agree with not just putting rides there just to have them...and I also agree that you don't get the same kind of magic at Universal, so that says alot. But I think lilsonic fan said it best - it feels more like an actual movie-studio at Universal.

Oh, I also though "Residential Street" and the backlot tour were pretty lame aside from catastrophe canyon.

BTW, MGM is DH's hands down favorite park, epecially sunset Blvd. I agree it is special...My favorite is Magic Kingdom, but Animall Kingdom is only slightly behind.
