Anyone else miss Tapestry of Nations?

I love that parade! My favorite float of all time is that rotating drumset/clock float. The music was great, too. I'll never forget seeing it for the first time near the Norway Pavillion.

I used to do PAC overtime for that parade all the time. It was great (until they ruined it and turned it into "Travesty of Nightmares") and helped tie in with the story of Illuminations: Reflections of Earth.

I knew a few people who worked it though, and on a night with even a mild breeze those puppets could cause serious injuries :(

I too used to love that parade!.

Yes the RPU's were awsome! :thumbsup2 (Rotating Percussion Units)

And as ConcK said, the whole thing was a workman's comp nightmare! One slight breeze and the Orlando chiropractors were getting phone calls left and right! But it was nice while it lasted!

OMG, do I *ever* miss it! I used to park myself in the outdoor seating area by the Rose and Crown the minute the pre-illuminations music started .... that tract was especially good. :cloud9: The torches would come on, and TON would start. That music was awesome! Loved everything about that parade.

Oh my gosh. This was my all time, absolute favorite. The Great Millenium Walk... with the Sage of Time. ::yes::

I really miss this "parade." I know those puppets were miserable to control though.

I really didn't care for the Tapestry of Dreams... that Kenny Rogers on crack dude was too scary for me! :guilty:

Mine too - the first time I heard the music I "mis-heard" it...it was weeks before I realized they WEREN"T saying my name (Cayla)....

I still listen to the CD.

And hope it comes back.....which I doubt.....:(

When we went in 2002, I was hoping to see this, but our only day at Epcot was a bit rainy, so the parade was cancelled. By the time we went back in 2003, it was gone. :sad1: So, I never got to see this in person.

One night when I was there a spanish family was singing "Vuelo abuela vuelo". :rotfl:

There were hidden Mickeys on the drum/clock float! :cutie:

I miss this parade too! EPCOT is the only park without a parade now.

We still have our old tee shirts from this parade. We were wearing them in 2003 when we bought our iMac at the Apple Store in Millenia Mall. The person who worked with us on that purchase had been in the parade. He was such a cool kid. Said we'd brought back good memories for him...

I loved Tapestry of Nations, and the Millenium Village too.

I would go to both the Early Show, and then the Later Show, and finish it off with ILLUMINATIONS. I would get my local Orlando friend mad at me for my wanting to see both Tapestry of Nations nightly shows, instead of doing something else that would take me away from the Parade path.

The first time when one of the Puppateers reached out to me I was ready to cry, I could never get enough of the "WAYLA". I would follow the procession back to the gate where they would close the show. I really regret not having a digital camera for this show.

I had a cast member friend who operated one of the Puppateering/suits, he got quite the biceps from having to operate that costume/suit. It really was quite a workout for him, but he really enjoyed this compared to being a character at other park shows.

If Disney ever resurrected a limited engagement of that show at EPCOT, I would be doing whatever I could to see that show again. If they doubled their prices for a limited engagement, I would still go, because there was never again a parade like it. I wonder if they could ever put on Tapestry of Nations Nights, like they put on their other Halloween/Christmas Party Nights at the Magic Kingdom? It would be worth the 55 dollar ticket, if they could keep EPCOT open to Midnite.

I feel sad for those people who never got to see The Tapestry of Nations Parade live.

Did you sing "Wayla" out of the park ? We did.

Phil

Yes I would pay to see that parade again! Maybe we could start a petition! :thumbsup2

I think if they moved it to Future World, the wind issues would be better, and it would draw more people to Future World!

FYI they still play part of the music as you leave the park after Illuminations...always makes me sad to hear it!

That might work, O'Mike! The petition and moving it to the more protected FW. As long as they don't take it near Spaceship Earth. That place is a wind tunnel most of the time! :scared1:

Couldn't you just tell them to do it? I mean, everyone listens to you!

Hi Mike

I know about the music when leaving the park, I am always telling some friends and my boyfriend about that music when we leave EPCOT late. They probably are bored hearing me talk about The Tapestry of Nations, they just enjoy the music and march out of the park with tired feet to Wayla ! I'm like you, I remember what the music represented.

If we did get an EPCOT "WAYLA" Party Night, Private Ticket Event going, what could it include besides, could you get the day people out of the park by 8 PM, and deny them ILLUMINATIONS ? How would you build a Tapestry of Nations Party Ticket Event? Put on your Imagine-Ears.

It could be like a Pleasure Island Event at EPCOT with a Concert ?
Okay yell at that idea, but I would love to hear others ideas.
I just want to see that parade again.

Wayla !

After hours event, AFTER Illuminations! Big party in the old Millennium Village, with meet and greets and photo ops with a RPU and the puppets. Then an exclusive showing somewhere in the park where the wind is low! I know the guy who wrote the drum work for the RPU's, we could ask him to speak, along with the designers of the puppets! Anyone know who that is?

Just found this video. Even though it is Tapestry of Dreams...it's a pretty good look at some of the other puppets, and the guys on the RPU's!

Sigh....

Oh wait, wrong chat site!

If it could only happen Mike, it is a nice wish. It is kind of a EPCOT Rerun.

Can we have light dining in the Millenium Village, a little snack/wine/beer thingy?

Can they keep Soarin open for the event.

People might yell at me, but they could put on for the event only, a Rerun of Captain E-O at the Kodak Pavillion? Are you yelling? I thought a 3D music/video at that theatre was so cool.

It might be nice to let the people enter the park at 6 PM with the Event ticket, but they would have to find a way to get the other people out of the park after an early Illuminations ?

Addicted to the Wayla !

Phil
