Anyone else here actually glad with the closing of Maelstrom and others?

I have no problem with any of the changes. My problem is the time it takes to do things. Why does it take so long to redo the Hub and build a parking garage?

No. Because as others have said, instead of building new rides, using vacant buildings (Wonders of Life, I'm talking to you!) and updating their IT, Disney has failed on every other attempt. HM update was OK. New Fantasyland is OK. But nothing at EPCOT. And now we are getting the presence of a "meh movie" in THREE freakin' parks. A&E m&G at MK, shops/parades/events at DHS and now a stupid and unnecessary ride at EPCOT where it clearly does not belong.

So no. Not excited one freakin' bit.

Yep, I am more with you. Yes, Backlot Tour needed a renovation badly. However, closing it without naming something new? Not good. AIE was just okay (though on our last trip my daughter made it to the finals, which made a very exciting day at DHS), but, again, if you are closing something, let us get excited about something new. I have no interest in Avatar, so the Avatarland is of little excitement for me. If rumors are true and JTA is going where AIE was, that too would cause me to yawn. Sadly, I am as unexcited as I have ever been about Disney. We have pretty much gone every year, but we have no plans to go at all in 2015. I am feeling the magic less and less.

Not upset at all about the backlot tour closing. It's a shell of it's former self at best. We have been to WDW 7 times in the past 5 years and never ridden the Idol experience so I guess we won't be missing that much either..

As far as the Malestrom closing, I do think that it was a little outdated and could have used some sprucing up. We will miss riding it, but it wasn't a ride that we rode several times a trip. It would have been nice if the ride could have been kept/updated and Frozen put somewhere else.

That being said, since the change is going through, I do hope that the Frozen ride (which is out of place in the WS) is great and has big crowds because it'll pull people away from the TT and Soarin lines that we'll be in!

I have found it very interesting how upset people have gotten over the ride closing. I can't help but wonder if it had not been a Frozen themed change would people be as mad? Are people more mad at that or mad that something "classic" is being removed?

We will miss Malestrom, it was one of the "comfort" rides. But, time goes on, and things change.

If only it were replaced with a real country to keep the EPCOT theme unadulterated. A&E would fit in well in DHS or MK.

Norway is beautiful, not well known, and the CMs from there were extraordinary. We loved Akershus, we enjoyed Maelstrom, we enjoyed the CMs...Norway will be missed.
