Anyone else here actually glad with the closing of Maelstrom and others?

Glad I got to ride Maelstrom once or twice. It was cheesy and fun, but not something I'll miss. I'm sure many people are genuine fans who have loved Maelstrom for years and frequent it, but it seems like there are just as many who have just jumped on the #savemaelstrom bandwagon just cause it's the elite Disney thing to do

I am happy to see the changes and updates. I agree with you on both Maelstrom and the Backlot. If everythings stays the same, there is no reason for our family to keep returning. We like to wait a few years and go back to see what's new.

Some of the entertainment at Epcot was good (Off Kilter) but we can't have them playing the same shows year after year for the next 20 years. It HAS to change at some point. I'm glad to see World Showcase get refreshed.

I know of many who felt that way before they saw the video of the lumberjack show from yesterday.

Refreshing is fine, as long as they refresh using GOOD acts. It can't be more obvious that they went bargain-basement on that one.

I don't know if I'm GLAD that Maelstrom is closed, but I'm definitely not angry about it. I'm more bummed that I couldn't ride it one last time, but c'est la vie.

i loved the malstrom ride it was relaxing and part of our day at epcot. i can see adding a frozen ride,but by eliminating the malstrom and replacing it with the frozen ride that does not add any extra rides to epcot wich could use many more. also disney hollywood needs more rides and. meet and greets are nice for little kids but big kids like me want more rides!(do like universal does!)

I'm with you too! We never go on Maelstrom or the Backlot tour so we are happy to see some updates. They were a one time ride for us. And I am pretty ecstatic about a Frozen ride! And can't wait to hear what is replacing the Backlot tour.

It was never a "Must go on ride" for me. This July (had I known it was closing I may have done differently" the wait was 30 minutes so I passed. It's one of those rides if if there is a short line, I'll go but if not, no problem.

Back Lot Tour was the one where you could see the behind the scenes stuff at movies right? I haven't been in ten years and am returning in December 2014. I remember that ride and loved it. Are they renovating or is it gone completely?

I am also returning Dec. 13-21 and from what I read it's closed for good. That is a ride I enjoyed.

I thought it was great. It's nowhere near as outdated as the Universe of Energy or painful as the current Journey to Imagination. They may be closing things, but Disney isn't opening much right now. They're moving at a glacial pace.

Well they did just finish with the largest expansion in the history of the MK.

And they moved at a glacial pace, especially with the Mine Train. When you have four parks, letting two slip badly isn't really the great way to go when you keep raising ticket prices.

I'm not saying there were delays. They just moved really slowly. It took Universal less time to build all of Diagon Alley and Transformers. I hate to make the obvious comparison, but it stands out.

I don't really care because I don't see it as a contest between the two parks. Universal is "newer" than Disney, and is just now catching up, so to speak. They're building a lot NOW, but they weren't always. Mine Train was also a last minute addition, IIRC, so from my understanding they had to do everything from scratch AFTER NFL was announced

I Love new things and changes at Disney. Won't miss the backlot tour or Maelstrom. Im excited about the rumored changes at Hollywood although I kind of like Idol. It was good to sit down and do between other things. I do not, however, like changes for the worse. I am having a serious problem with the Lumberjack thing. And I have never forgiven them for the changes they made to Spaceship Earth.
