Anyone else have a "night owl" child?

DS8 is a total night owl, so the school year is a killer for him. He's done with school in 8 days, and what he's looking forward to most is staying up at night/sleeping in! Luckily, I teach, and am also a night owl, so this works out for the both of us. His grandparents think it's wrong, but I feel if it's not school time, and it doesn't make him crabby during the day, what's the diff? We do have a rule that he has to be doing something quietly in his room after 9, and, that if he gets annoying/naggy, he will be sent to bed. Any other kids out there like this?

I woke up Saturday night to find my DS8 still up and watching tv....it was 1 a.m. Given his way, he'd stay up every night this late. I don't have a problem with it on a non-school night or when out of school. My only rule is if I have to get him up early the next morning, I don't want any crabbing about it. If it's something I know about ahead of time, I will forewarn him. Usually he's pretty good about getting up even when he's tired.

Yep, I can totally relate. My DS11 has been a night owl since he
was born. Takes after his father, not me, that's for sure. LOL!
Same rules, after 9:00 he must be doing something quiet and he
is pretty good about that.

All 3 of my boys are night owls but then so are their parents. The youngest 2 even like to get up early. They don't seem to need much sleep. They never seem to get more than 8 or 9 every night.

DD, 12 in 10 days, informed me last night that the reason she was late getting up in the morning was because she was awake until 2am! I send her to bed between 10 and 10:30 and she just can not fall asleep.

my mom did...ME! She swears I was born this way and put me into afternoon kindergarten because of it. Having said that, the hardest part is being a night-owl in a day world. Hey, is this a new lifestyle category....why should I have to work in the day, when I do so much better at night?

Totally. DD has been a night owl since birth. On weekends she's up all night and sleeps until someone forces her out of bed. She's been known to sleep until 3 PM in the summer. She'll have to choose a profession which allows her to keep these crazy hours - night watchwoman? bartender? emergency surgeon? - yes - that's the one!;)

Oh ya, middle ds 10 can stay up until 11 no problem. It's a yelling fest every night, he doesn't go to bed until 10 or later no matter how hard I try. He sits up and reads. My Mom gets a big kick out of this because I was the same way.

The time is now 10:00pm, do you know where your child is? Mine is on the couch watching Sister, Sister even though I told her it's time to go to bed.

Tomorrow is going to be another loonngg morning trying to get her up for school.
