Me!!! We can't afford to re-do our whole family room, so I went to Bassett Furniture to pick out a sofa and chair in earth tones. We have a massive stone fireplace with the tv over it. Our existing 2 chairs and a half (they are too big a scale, but they'll have to do) are dark brown and a tropical brown/olive/rust print. I love Bassett and have shopped there several times, but when it comes time to commit to the colors/fabrics, I freak out.

Yesterday, I put in an order, and I know I'll worry til it comes in. Is anyone else fashion challenged when it comes to choosing color/scale/texture, etc? I just asked the sales associate to choose something kid=proof in neutrals.

PS If I screwed this up and don't like it, I'll be selling this to Richmonders on Craigslist!!!

LOL...we went looking at furniture one day last year since we needed new furniture. The stuff we had was wearing away it was so old. It was buy new or get it reupholstered. Since it was cheaper to buy new, that's what we did. We looked at a few places. I like bold bright colors and kept choosing the funky bright stuff. We ended up at Lazy Boy since Boyfriend wanted a recliner. HE chose everything. I kind of gave my opinion. He picked it for me though. It is red. A dark red since it will need to last a while. We love it. I was so nervous right before it came though.

My Mom and I once went to about 6 or 7 furniture stores in one day. We went in, ran around real quick, and left.

It didn't take us TOO long, but by the time we were done, we were mentally drained.

I bought furniture about 5 years ago. It was the first time I'd ever bought several pieces at once and made my upholstery choices from little swatches. (and the ONLY time I've ever done a whole room at once instead of collecting over time) Man was I terrified. I was so afraid they would clash or look like different colors in once they were in the room. Every other time I've bought furniture it was as is from the store so I had a better idea what I was getting AND the possibilty of returning it if it didn't work out. My wood pieces were also all different - a mix of stains and paints - so it was really hard to tell how it would work. I drove myself crazy laying out pieces of newspaper on the floor trying to gage how big I could go on couch size etc.

All the things I got ended up coordinating together wonderfully and I found drapes etc. that worked as well. I'm still pleased with how the room looks, but it was scary!

It took us 6 months to pick out the style and color of the leather for our living room...it doesn't really intimidate us, but rather we just are particular on they style we wanted.
