Anyone Else Extremely Disappointed in the Osborne Lights?

We were there last Saturday. It was crowded but the wait was only about 30 min. I thought the lights were beautiful and with the Christmas music and snow falling it felt very festive.

I was about to say the same thing...lol. The other day there was a thread about how MVMCP was a waste of money and now the Osborne Lights are "extremely disappointing"... Oh well, no matter what anyone says I'm excited to see all these things myself, I can't wait for my 1st holiday trip to WDW! -Stephanie

You know, I look at it like this. We have gone to WDW every year for the last 3 years, now this year, we have had to skip it. Our last trip started with the opening of POP on 12/14 of last year. We did MVMCP twice and had no Osborne Lights, which was disappointing to us, because we are "light lookers". But, it was still magical. I would not have traded our holiday vacation at WDW for the world.

We are hoping to go again in December of next year. I am so jealous of everyone going this year. We need some pixie dust around here. Family and financial issues have kept us away from WDW this year. It totally stinks. So, no matter how disappointed any of you are with MVMCP or the Osborne Lights, it's still better than going through withdrawal at home with no hope of pixie dust for another year. So, just be glad you got to go! Maggie

PS. All of you that hated it so much, don't feel that you have to go back to it next year, that means that Gabby and I will have the place to share with the folks that really want to be there.

If I remember correctly, we were at MGM on the Sunday after Thanksgiving. We ate at CP, left MK around 7ish (just as the hoards of MVMCPers were heading in!!). We got back to BWV around 7:30. We decided to try to catch the Lights before the park closed. So, made the 'walk' from BWV in about 8 minutes. (after a potty stop in our room). Got to MGM about 8ish, with the park closing at 8:30. Went straight to Osborne Lights and there really weren't too many people there. We walked right in, had plenty of time to just amble slowly through. By the time we made the turn at the end of the street, to head out, the crowds had picked up. When we exited, there looked to be a ton of people waiting to get in!!! It must have been that Fantasmic ended and those folks came over to see the Lights before they left the park.

We did enjoy the Lights. Having never seen them before, we had nothing to compare them to. When we checked into BWV, the CM that helped us told us that he really didn't care for the new set-up. He really preferred the 'neighborhood' feel of the old ones. But, they were wonderful in our opinion. My dd was truly amazed.

I have a question.
Do regular 3D glasses (like the ones the video store gave to when I rented Shrek3D) work with Osborne lights?
We're leaving on Saturday and if these generic 3D glasses will work with Osborne lights I'll pack them.

I guess I'm just not as "worldly" as some posters. My family and I went through the Osborne Lights last Wednesday and I thought they were awesome. We waited until the initial crowd had pushed their way through and walked right in. The snow, the lights, the music all gave me a chill down my spine and brought a tear to my eye. I found myself becoming a child again seeing the sparkle and glow of the angels above my grandchildren. I was seeing Christmas through their eyes. Too bad age removes that special feeling too many times.

They are not really "3-D" glasses. They are holographic glasses that produce a circle of angels around each pointed light source when you look through them. They are cool, but don't make or break the experience.

I'm so bummed to read this! My DH and I are going next weekend and we've never been before so we're very excited! I will take the advice to wait until an hour or so before park closing to go see the lights. I hope that we will not be disappointed since we have no previous experience to compare it to. I'll let you know in 2 weeks!

Thanks for letting me know. We'd look pretty darn silly wearing generic 3D glasses there then. :) I've never seen them before, so I imagine they'll great to me next week when we see them.

The glasses were the first thing my DS10 ask about when I mentioned the lights would be back this year. Wonder if there's any hope of finding our old ones? He'll be heartbroken!

We saw the Lights on Thurs. Dec.2 right after Fantasmic. There were lots of people, but I never felt "herded". We were able to stop whenever we wanted to take pictures and didn't feel like we had to rush through it. I had never seen them before, so I was VERY impressed. And yes, it did snow the whole time we were going through them. I thought it was absolutely worth it to see them!!

I liked the residential area better because it felt like you were walking through a neighborhood (naturally, thus the name). I certainly would not say that the new set up is disappointing though. I still thought it was a fantastic display...and my parents, who had never seen the Osbourne lights, were also very impressed.

I actually felt less crowded this year than I did last time (2 years ago). It was jammed a bit as you entered the area but everyone spread out quickly. We had a very enjoyable walk through. I also have some great pics. I'll have to post a few when I get a chance.

Jess

PS...we loved the MVMCP too.

Count me amongst the few that prefers the new location. Everything is more elevated, when Residential Street was crammed with wall to wall people (as it often was) shorter people (like my wife and daughter) were forced to choose one side of the street or the other - as they would see nothing from the middle.

Also, the crowd movement seems better to us. Too many times on Residential Street it was a mass-movement of people, no way in the world were you stopping - you'd get knocked over.

Not true on our trip through on Thanksgiving weekend. We could set our own pace, stop where we wanted, etc. We went through starting at 6:45 on a night when Fantasmic started at 8:00, so perhaps most people were already in their seats. We'll be there again Saturday night - and this time we are taking some Angel Glasses from a couple of years ago.

I feel sorry for Disney. Last year everyone complained NO LIGHTS. This year they complain LIGHTS! LOL! Disney just can't win unless they never change anything and then people would probably complain "I've seen it all before"

Plus the crowd complaint. There is NO WAY it could be worse then residential street. The first hour there always made me feel like I was being trampled to death. (Or run over by the stoller patrol, who were so busy looking at the lights they failed to see anyone in front of them!)

We saw the lights last night, and really enjoyed them. I guess we went right after it opened, around 6ish, actually it was just dusk and they weren't lit yet, so we went in Ellen's bookstore for a little while, had some coffee, browsed for a little while, then entered the throng from the side door of the bookstore, so we didn't actually have to go out and get "in line". While there were quite a few people, I never felt herded or crowded. We stopped when we wanted to, took alot of pictures, and had a good time. We did see the lights two years ago when it was on the residential street, and my DH and I think we enjoyed this set up a little bit more. I can't explain why, but we both thought it was beautiful. I am also one of the people who thought MVMCP was too crowded. At least you're not paying "extra" to enjoy the Osborne Lights.

We have purchased the "Angel Glasses" for our kids at our local Walgreens. I have also seen them at local Christmas stores.

I'll have to go look before we leave next weekend. Thanks for the update.

I am just so excited to be there for Christmas and to see the lights again.

Me, me, me.....One of the reasons we go @Thanksgiving is to see the lights. It will not be such an issue for me unless it changes. I much preferred the neighborhood streets to the city streets that were decorated this year. It bothered me that they ruined one of my favorite things.

First time for Osborne lights,, I enjoyed them and so did my Family,,,, sorry for those that always expect MORE>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

The lights are spectacular. But....if you have seen them before you may be disappointed. If you have never seen them, you will be wowed. Be prepared to walk slowly through unless you go later in the evening.

There were alot of sections that were not working last week. But if you were not right on top of them you would not notice.

Go and enjoy them! And if you can get angel glasses take them! We did from previous years and the CM member said "Don't let anyone see those!!" they are regretting not having the glasses. The excuse we heard was "they are different lights so they will not work" which is a bunch of bunk... ours worked great!!

Oh and by the way, if you have glasses......watch the fireworks withthem, you will get a great show!

Debbie
