Anyone else ever get the "no appetite" problem besides me???

I don't understand it. Honestly, the only thing I can think is that the heat makes me a little ill.

On our first trip last year in late Oct/early Nov, we were on the deluxe dining plan. First off, it was too much food for us, and then I do remember it being a little warmer than I am used to for that time of the year. But just about every time we would eat, I could never finish anything. Not one entree, side or dessert for either cs or ts. Before this trip, I thought maybe it was just because I wasn't used to eating so many heavy meals like that, but the same thing happened this year.

This time, we were on the free, basic dining plan. We ate at some great places (in our opinion): Tusker House, Liberty Tree Tavern, Chefs de France, Rose and Crown, 50's Prime Time Cafe and Whispering Canyon Cafe. And I felt horrible wasting so much food. I would honestly take about 4-5 bites and the thought of eating anything else would make me naseous. Everything we ate tasted wonderful (maybe a bit too much salt on some items, but still very good), but the only thing I could manage to finish was my steak at Whispering Canyon.

I'm wondering if anyone else gets like this when they go? I think next time, we will try Dec or Jan to be sure to avoid the heat. We also might take things a little slower and not spend so much time running around the parks and wearing ourselves out. Right now, it's just DH and I so it's not like we have to take things slowly, but maybe we should.

My sister, who is going with me, never has an appetite if it is too hot out. This year our strategy is to avoid eating during the hottest times - we will just have a muffin or something in the room for breakfast, eat lunch early (11 ish) then once it starts getting too miserably hot we will take a mid day break to cool down (and get a snack if we start getting hungry). Our dinner ADR's are about 7:30 so by the time we rest or swim, she should have her appetite back by then. We are even thinking about splitting one CS meal for breakfast, then splitting another later for lunch. That way we can each eat smaller amounts more frequently, so hopefully we won't feel as full and miserable in the heat.

I am with you!
When I hear about people eating 3 TS a day plus app. and dessert, I just feel ill.

I really think it is the combination of travelling, richer/restaurant food, the heat, and the extra exercise. If you are drinking a lot of extra water to stay hydrated, it also really fills you up. It really minimized my appetite.
I ALWAYS split meals, even QS.

I have been to Disney every year for 35 years, at least once. And I RARELY eat in the TS restaurants because it is kinda a waste. I saw a thread last week asking what people chose as their favorite TS in EPCOT. In all these years, I've NEVER eaten at a TS in EPCOT. It's just too much food with the heat and the walking around. I like to have an empty stomach to feel comfortable (I have traditionally gone in the summer until recent years).

We are going in a few weeks on free dining, and I think i'm the only person on the planet who is dreading it. Like you, I don't want to waste the food. I know that I will have a lot of extra credits left, just hoping to bring back some snacks in the luggage.

This has happened to me at the beach before, but NEVER at Disney! There are just too many good treats. I gain weight every time I go because I always use the excuse, "it's vacation and calories don't count on vacation!" :rotfl2:

I'm kind of in the middle. The heat usually makes we want lighter food. The idea of steak makes me nauseated....lol. I tend to eat alot of seafood at Disney. Not a problem though, since living in PA seafood is usually pretty expensive so it is still a splurge in Disney

It happens to me but I think it's more from being dehydrated than the heat itself. I start to feel sick when I'm dehydrated. Last trip, I sat down with a cold bottle of water in the shade and it passed. Good thing because Dbf brought over a pineapple dole whip float with that water! After a few minutes, I was able to dig in. Can't wait to get another one on our trip next month!

LOL! Believe it or not, I actually lost 7 pounds after our 6 day vacation. I feel better knowing that I'm not the only one anymore.

I always wondered if anyone else experienced this as well. It happens everytime I go to the world. IMHO it's the walking that does it or maybe that there are so many things to do. My son is rarely hungry either and he's a big eater when we're at home.

the heat can really throw you off

we are doing dxdp the first 2 nights (dvc) before we move to BCV. We tend not to do the parks too much during hte weekends, more hang at the resort, do some outlet shopping, take it low key. Thought it would be the perfect time to try a couple new signatures

hopefully that will work out for us

good luck everyone :cool1:

Hee! I found ya! Box up your leftovers and leave it for us! I'm now officially short one tS meal. this trip keeps getting more and more expensive! (i am soooo tired of overtime)

I struggle to feel hungry in the heat. i usually prefer small snacks/meals often rather than a big meal. My tip? Order off the kid's menu - much easier to manage those portion sizes - and for us UKers they're about normal for us anyway!

I'm with you, OP! When I lived in Orlando, I didn't feel like eating much in the summer. I also can't imagine doing the DxDP. Too much food for me! I am making a point to go in the winter so that it is not so hot!!!

THIS sounds just like me. At home I diet diet diet, then when I go on a trip... I EAT EAT EAT. :lmao: ESPECIALLY at WDW, ther'e just sooooo much delicious food there, waiting for me to help it fulfill it's purpose.

I am definitely less hungry when it is hot out and I have not had enough water. However, since we go to Disney in the summer, and that's what I did as a kid with my parents, when I'm there I am in that mode of thinking that we must drink TONS of water! That's what we do all day. Dehydration could make you feel ill, sluggish and definitely lose your appetite. Some people also just don't like to eat much in the heat.

I still eat a lot at WDW. But, we get to the park before rope drop and we take a break by 2PM (the hottest point of the day is between 2 and 3PM). We go back to the park for dinner, unless we are going to a resort restaurant. That way, we get to do lots of attractions in the morning before it gets too hot and we are in a nice air-conditioned room resting in the mid-afternoon.

Another thing I tend to do is in the heat, I like lighter things to eat. So I will opt to have a salad with grilled chicken in it with a little light dressing at a CS lunch, for example. I usually avoid the fried heavy stuff. We do the basic dining plan, so sometimes I would get fruit or yogurt as my dessert because I didn't feel like having ice cream or a piece of cake.

I agree that the deluxe dining plan is way too much food, unless you do a lot of signatures. If you want to try all or many of the signature dinners for 2 credits each then, IMO, it is more worth it (without being an overload of food) because you could still get a light lunch and use snack credits for small breakfast items and use the refillable mug for coffee or another beverage with breakfast, on the deluxe plan. Or even get a breakfast, and skip lunch but snack lightly with those snack credits and then enjoy a signature dinner.

Yup, me too. Last year, I was doing WW when we visited, and I wondered how I'd stay on point. But with the heat, I was less interested in food, so it worked out fine. Oh, I got my special WDW treats -- definitely didn't deny myself! -- but I ate much less than I thought I would. (And then walked it all off!)

Same here. Never eat my moneys worth especially at Chef Mickey.
Combination of selections not great, tired/hot/stress from disabled child I just don't eat. In January the waitress told me to take some fruit to go as she saw I did not eat hardly anything. Same with last week had a few bites of soup and a few bites of some turkey casserol and drank 1/2 sprite.

I call and cancel 1-2 ADRs per trip because of the lack of appetite.

We did end up taking our last CS meal from Earl of Sandwich with us on the road before we left on Saturday. There's still 1/2 of mine in the fridge at home.

I'm starting to think there might be something wrong with me, because I still have no appetite. This feels much different from last year. After being home for 2 nights, I would have expected my appetite to come back, but it hasn't. I think I might make an appointment in the morning to see if I'm okay.

It happens to my 2 kids and me every year....not dh....:rotfl: So every year I say next year we are splitting meals as a huge waste of money...but we never do.....:scared1: This year we tried the QSDP and again the same thing happened we were starving but by the time we sat down and started to eat we were getting full with just a few mouthfuls :confused3, then dh would get mad at us...lol! Tried to hold off as long as possible but just never worked...I dont know why :confused3

It didnt happen to me this time and i was surprised. It was our first visit and i thought between the heat & food i would get sick at least once but luckily didnt. I guess because for our 11:00 lunch i would get a chicken salad, few bites of cake and that would be it. I did eat a pizza for lunch one day and i didnt feel the best after eating it so i stuck with salads very early before noon all other days. I also ate dinner early around 5:00 (a few times i did eat more than i should have) and then walked it off the rest of the night (i didnt eat anything later before going to bed). I guess this was the trick to not getting any stomach problems for me this time around. Most of the time though i was not starving but did feel that i had to force myself to eat.

My appetite tends to diminish in the heat also, and I drink excessive amounts of water and end up needing to take a lot of trips to powder my nose, which gets irritating when I am in line. I think I will implement the rule to stop and use the bathroom anytime I pass one, just to be safe! LOL!
At least the DDP is free, so it's not like I am paying for the meals. I am hoping they have a freak cool spell in 2 weeks. Hey, a girl can dream, right!? :rotfl2:
